I am not one who usually writes a review on a company or organizations performance but when I read a couple of the negative reviews online I felt that I had to share our experience with [redacted] and his K9 Academy. Frist thing I would like to say is that over my professional career I have met and worked with thousands of people from the boardroom to the associates working on the plant floor. I found [redacted] to be one of the most professional, competent, honest, and caring individuals I have ever worked with. I would recommend him and his company without hesitation to anyone who has a problem dog. Be forewarned his service are expensive, but when you look at the results he can and does obtain, and the follow up training that is included in the price, he supplies a great value for the money. In fact [redacted] is going to visit [redacted] in a couple of weeks for some follow up training.
About four years ago our son and daughter-in-law fell in love with a puppy. They purchased him and brought him home without thinking their situation through. [redacted], named after [redacted], is a Labradoodle, with more Lab than Doodle. My son and I are both [redacted] fans. He tried for “[redacted]” or “[redacted]” first but his wife shot those names down. They were newly married professional working 10 hour days plus commuting time. They soon realized they were being unfair to the dog. My wife who helped with house breaking [redacted] also fell in love with him, and soon we had an addition to our family. Our last Lab had passed a couple of years earlier.
As [redacted] grew to about 75 pound, he became a problem. He was very active, high strung, slightly aggressive, and had a very bad habit of jumping on my wife all of the time. She had a previous spinal cord injury and surgery and lives with constant pain in her back. We were very concerned that [redacted] was going to cause further injury to her by knocking her down. It was so bad that we had talked of giving him up. That’s when we searched the web for a good dog trainer. After an exhaustive search we called K9 Academy and [redacted]. One of his staff came to our home and met with us to lay out his program. We were impressed, but thought the price quoted was astronomical for dog training. After looking at our options, and deciding we could not pass a “problem” dog to someone else, we bit the bullet and spent the money for the 4 week boot camp.
The dog we got back after boot camp looked the same but the change in behavior was remarkable! We now had a dog that listen to commands, was no longer jumping on people, and all around was very well behaved. We were very, very pleased with the results. Today, four years later, he is still a well behaved, loving and a joy. As I said previously, expensive but effective training. My wife and I would recommend [redacted] services without hesitation.

I also experienced a negative interaction with this company. The situation has been resolved but after considerable time and involvement with the disputes resolution department of my credit card company.
Upon initially contacting TLC K9 to gain training information for a contemplated puppy, I found myself providing my credit card number (subsequently changed) in advance as requested for a training date the following week, for which a contract was never emailed to me; the owner, [redacted], later said he'd been ill and hadn't gotten a chance to send it. After learning our beloved dog that had been missing had turned up dead, I decided I did not have the fortitude to go ahead with a new puppy and attempted contacting him to cancel the session. Instead I got countless unreturned calls to the company's call center. Concerned my charge would not be canceled, I contacted my credit card company who called TLC K9 with me on the line. [redacted] did finally call me back three hours later - I assumed his service informed him that the credit card rep had been involved. He told me he'd refund my money and I presumed the situation was resolved. However, a week later, after I spent the day at the hospital with a friend who's husband passed away, I got a what can only be described as a very assertive voicemail from the owner [redacted] demanding I return his call, that he had refunded my money as promised, LESS A $50 SERVICE FEE which he'd not originally informed me of, but became aware my credit card company had also stopped charges, which I'd not been aware of, and I'd better return his call immediately or he'd get his attorneys involved. I called my credit card company to straighten this out and learned I was under no obligation to call him as they were involved in the dispute process, a fact the vendor should know and not be calling the customer in the first place. I subsequently also learned [redacted] recharged my account the full amount that same day, which I certainly had not authorized.
This situation took several weeks to resolve, with the credit card extending the $50 to cover the $50 service fee they determined was unfairly charged, I would never deprive or undermine an individual or company of fees earned or otherwise rightfully due but there are obviously flaws in communication in how this particular company conducts both internal and external business with customers that needs to be addressed and resolved.

This business will NOT refund ANY portion of your money, which they demand up front. They take advantage of people with problem dogs. When you attempt to work with them and compromise, your polite requests and emails are first ignored and, when you become insistent, they threaten to sue you. They just want your money, and they don't care about anything else. When you finally actually get them to answer your emails, they are rude and confrontational. It purports to be a "business," but it seems to consist solely of one very unpleasant, strange man: [redacted]. He claims to have a masters degree from Harvard, but I seriously doubt it. Do NOT give this guy your money!

I must say [redacted] was very informative and thorough during the session and certainly impressive with his observations regarding our dog. However, he then quoted training fees of $1500 plus equipment & tests by his preferred vet that would amount to another $1000++. For that price, I would imagine at least he would provide some material - clickers, books, dvds. Rather than make us pay triple the price on [redacted]. (2 X clickers at $8 each??).
I asked for some time to process this financial expenditure and he rudely replied he was no longer interested in working with us. Very disappointing, if he had given us a week or 2, we probably would have moved forward with the training. I guess [redacted] didn't educate him on good business / customer service skills and I look forward to being listed on his Hall of Shame. I work in Sales and his way of doing business is shameful.
