I am the *** of tlc transmissions. The car (ford explorer)has multiple problems,as the customer expressed to me at drop off.It has an abs light on for the brakes, noises in the front of the car,as well as the transfercase binding
up when engaged.after our diagnosis the customer was told they needed a transfercase and diagnosis time for the abs light. They took the car for another opinion. They came back 1week later and said the binding is from the transfercase. They could not afford a new one,so I located a used one, they agreed. We replaced it.the abs problem was not addressed(they didnt want to)as well as the horrible noise in the front hub bearing. With the hubs being damaged and the abs problem the engaging of the 4xwill be effected,,,*** was told that.He came back complaining of the 4xas well as the braking and the noise. In the letter of complaining he says a mechanic told him the axles come out,,oh boy,he needs to go to school, axles as well as his other complaints are not touched...he came back yelling and cursing and getting in my face in front of my shop, which is not acceptable.we did the transfercase job and it corrected the binding. The car needs much, much more work

We brought the vehicle to *** and told him the 4Xlight had just come on. He diagnosed the problem as the Transfer case. We left and brought the car back a week later. He encouraged us to go with the used Transfer Case. He never told us the car was a "mess." They put the wrong transfer case in, the connections do not match and the 4xlight continues to flash. After our experience with *** there was no way we were letting him touch the vehicle again to put the old transfer case back in

Review: I took my 2004 Ford Explorer to TLC because the 4x4 light was flashing and the truck would bind up when it first started. They told me that the problem was the Transfer Case and they could get a used one from a reliable source. They had my truck for 3 days to perform the repair. While repairing the truck they disconnected the 4x4. The same day I picked up the truck it started squealing and making other noises. The old transfer case was not given to us. The steering wheel is shaking. You can visibly see the entire truck shake as it is driven and the noises are so loud you can hear them from another car. We took the truck back the next morning and the owner told us that all they did was change the transfer case. The way they describe it makes it sound like they touched nothing else on the truck. I have been informed by another mechanic that the to get to the transfer case you need to take the axles apart, etc. The owner is telling us they could not have caused the problems, but my truck was not like this when it went in. After the fact he says that he does not like to use used parts. But before hand he told us that the source was reliable and this was the third one he was doing within 2 weeks. I have now had to take my truck to another repair shop and get a rental car.Desired Settlement: I would like the money I paid to him refunded.
