TLC Yachts Reviews (%countItem)

My sailboat was damaged during a micro blast storm on 10/16/2019. *** was selected as the repair facility. An insurance claim was filed with GEICO Marine insurance, my carrier, on October 16. *** reached out to Tartan Marine searching for replacement parts. On November 5, 2019 Tartan submitted a quote for parts totaling $6279 that included all the parts needed except 2 winches. Upon receipt of the quote *** added a port side teak toe rail at a Tartan quoted price of $2745 for a total of $9869.
On November 27, 2019 we accepted the amended quote. ***, Tartan Custom Service Manager, informed us the parts could take 3 months for the parts to be available. As per Tartan's requirement, a deposit of $5000 was wire transferred from *** to Tartan's bank account as supplied by Tartan. Upon receipt of the deposit from ***, Tartan sent a dated receipt for the $5000.00

Beginning February 3rd, *** has been attempting to communicate with *** and/or any Tartan employee to learn the status of the parts order and an estimated shipping date. Contact has been attempted almost daily leaving messages. Contact has been via telephone (land lines and cell) email and text. To date there has been no response from Tartan. No one has answered the phone, replied to emails or texts.

On November 25th, 2019, I ordered a replacement fuel tank for my sailboat from Tartan Yachts of Fairport Harbor, OH. I was required to pay 50% up front ($372.50), which I did (this charge came through on my subsequent credit card statement). Their aftermarket parts man ordered the tank from a fabricator, received it, and verified the shipping address with me just before Christmas. Thereafter I heard nothing from Tartan, despite calling and emailing the parts man every week with no response. I finally reached him on February 27th. He explained that he had been laid off for six weeks because the company could not meet payroll. He further stated that the only way he could ship my tank was if I gave him permission to give my credit card information to a common carrier so that I would pay the shipping costs directly, bypassing Tartan. Now, two weeks later, there has been no charge to my card, and I am again unable to contact Tartan by phone or email.

I purchased a Tartan 3400 (Tartan Yachts has since changed this boat to a 345 edition) April 6, 2016. This boat was promised to me in July of 2016. I made 4 progress payments of $51,471 each, totaling $205,884.

Since the original projection of receiving the boat in July of 1016 I have received delivery schedules that seems to be based on whatever the next holiday that appears on the calendar may be. They recently provided another delivery date, this time July 14, 2017. Please note: This is a production boat - not a custom boat. (The recently received photos do not look appreciably different from those received in August 2016 - even though there have been numerous completion dates provided between then and now). The latest reason was that they needed to get shipping dates for parts from suppliers - can you believe that, at this stage of the game!

I'm concerned I may never receive the boat. Company representatives have indicated they will no longer be speaking/communicating with their customers. I suggest that it is because they have spoken so many untruths that they are getting tangled up and cannot separate `fact form fiction" at this point.

I'm hopeful that you will be able to encourage them to provide the boat, earlier than July 14. Be wary, they are likely to tell you anything (masterful at stringing people along).

TLC Yachts Response

Telephone response received from the company as follows:

The company stated the boat is due to load on the truck and ship on 7/31/2017.

The company stated they are not sure if the boat has any height restrictions which could limit the hours it can be in transit.

The company stated transit could be about a week but they cannot guarantee it.
