TNT Auto Center Reviews (4)

This correspondence is in regards to Mr. [redacted]'s response to the information my staff and I sent replying to this complaint.

I interviewed [redacted], the technician that handled this work order, a second time concerning this matter.  At no time did the customer ask [redacted] to check under the valve cover. In fact,[redacted] told the customer the only way to check if the engine was damaged from the overreving was to remove the valve cover for inspection. The customer refused to have the valve cover removed and the other needed diagnostic work completed at that time.  The customer refused to incur the costs to do the complete diagnostic checks and the inspection needed to check the engine damage. Mr. [redacted] told [redacted] and [redacted],my service advisor, that he intended to do the repair himself.

Mr. [redacted] did in fact try to complete the repairs himself, and later asked [redacted] for advise on several times.  TNT Auto Center is not responsible for the damage to his cylinder head or any other malfunction as we did not complete and repairs or even the needed diagnostics and inspections we told the customer it needed.

The damage is the caused from prior overreving of the engine.  TNT Auto Center could not have prevented the damage with any diagnosis to this vehicle. The damage was done before it came into our shop and it was escalated by not having the needed repairs done.

TNT Auto Center does not have any financial responsibility for Mr. [redacted]'s needed repairs,as TNT did not cause the damage or could have prevented it, even if the valve cover had been removed during diagnosis.

Furthermore, if Mr. [redacted]'s was unsatisfied with the service he received here, as he says he was, he should have taken it for a second opinion before continuing to operate the vehicle.

Should you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me at ([redacted]} [redacted].

Sincerely,

President of TNT Auto Center

Concerning Mr. [redacted]'s complaint, I have reviewed the repair order and the supporting documentations, and I have discussed the diagnosis and the customer's original concerns with [redacted], my service advisor, and [redacted], the ASE Master Certified Technician and UTI graduate that performed...

the diagnosis. My findings show that it is apparent that the customer had no intention of having TNT Auto Center do any repairs on his vehicle. According to the technician, he was not allowed by the customer to complete all the suggested diagnoses and necessary test to accurately diagnose the repairs needed or provide an accurate quote. Mr. [redacted] discussed the initial diagnosis at length with [redacted] and intended to do the repairs and supply the parts himself. During the discussions between the customer and my technician we were informed that the engine had been severely over revved by the customer. Due to the engine being severely over revved, internal mechanical damage is possible, but was not evident at the time.

I am convinced that [redacted]'s diagnosis and suggested repairs are correct. When repairing a vehicle with multiple trouble codes you must repair them in order of priority. In this case, the first code ([redacted]) must be corrected before further diagnosis would be accurate.

TNT Auto Center has not had the opportunity to inspect the vehicle after suggested repairs were claimed to have been done. TNT Auto Center was never informed of any other problems with the engine until Mr. [redacted] asked for an estimate of labor to replace the engine. According to Mr. [redacted]'s statements a complete engine replacement is not necessary. At worst, only the cylinder heads would need to be replaced. TNT Auto Center has not had the opportunity to inspect the engine to see what repairs are necessary and what caused the failure.

In conclusion, I feel that all diagnoses performed were correct and to industry standards. TNT Auto Center was not allowed by the customer to do further diagnoses to determine if any mechanical damage was done to the engine. TNT Auto Center does not owe Mr. [redacted] any compensation for a new engine.

I have attached statements from my service advisor and my technician, should you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me at ###-###-####.

Sincerely,[redacted]

President of TNT Auto Center

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.I choose not to have repairs done to my vehicle at TNT because the Certified Mechanic whom is more qualified than myself refused to check under the valve cover for cylinder head damage, which was the cause of the hole worn through the side of the cylinder head. After being advised but many people that damage may have been done to the cylinder head I asked the mechanic to check the timing and to see if the valves or any moving parts in the cylinder head had been damaged after the incident, and the mechanic said that damage in the cylinder head was not the problem because " the car would be idling very rough." I asked the mechanic before I left the shop if me driving the would cause anymore damage he said "NO" because he was sure that no moving parts in the engine had been damaged, this is why I feel TNT should pay for the replacement of the engine. Since TNT is not willing to pay for the replacement of the engine as stated, and the stated that only the cylinder head would need replacement I've been quoted $3128.92 for replacement of the cylinder head, and I received a quote from CARS a shop that specializes in Audi cars, in Las Vegas, Nevada $1050 for parts and labor to get the cylinder head put on and get the car running again. Since TNT said that only a cylinder would need to be replaced and installed to get engine running again, the total to do that is $4178.92. I refuse to let TNT do the work on my car, so I would like to be compensated so I can have a more reliable shop with better customer service perform the service needed to get my car running again. The amount of $4178.92 should be covered by TNT for replacement and installation of a new cylinder headI have attached pictures of the damage cause by the mechanic not checking for what I had been advised was the problem.

Regards,

Review: I took my car to TNT after my car came up with a misfire code and two knock sensor codes. I insisted after consulting a few knowledgable friends that the technician check under the valve cover for damage to the cylinder head, and he was adamant that the problem could not have anything to do with the valves. Despite my continued exhortations to check the valve train. Afterwards, the mechanic insisted that the problem was elsewhere and he cleared the codes, ran them again, and took the car for a drive. After the misfire, happened, we returned to the shop and re-ran the codes: a cylinder 1 misfire and the knock sensors. He checked compression on Cylinder 1 and compression was fine. My uncle, a mechanic, then informed me the problem might be a blown valve cover or messed up the timing on the engine. The mechanic at TNT said that the car would not be running as smoothly as it was if that was the problem. He concluded the car was not coming up with boost and that I should replace the diverter valve.

I asked the mechanic if it was safe to drive home and he said there would be no damage. I drove the car home, had my uncle replace the diverter valve after the car sat for a few weeks idly. The codes still came up. The diverter valve did not fix the problem and as a result of the valve train problem or cylinder head, a moving part inside the engine wore a hole through the side of the cylinder head. I consulted another mechanic who told me the cylinder head would have to be replaced and this replacement and damage will cost me over $4500 for a new crate engine from the manufacturer, which I have already paid for. TNT quoted me 1500 to have the engine installed.Desired Settlement: Since this was only a 200 to 1000 dollar fix if it would have been caught soon enough and if the mechanic would have listened to me, I want them to pay for the engine and replacement in remuneration.
