Tod’s Painting Services is hands down the worst company I’ve ever had to deal with
Tod was recommended to me by my real estate agent, Caitlin PhillipsI hired him to re-paint and replace/install new trim in a house that I purchased last yearPrior to this, I made clear that a) I am incredibly detail-oriented, b) I had a very strict timeline (due to move-out/modates, my work schedule, etc.) that I needed him to stick to, and c) our contractual agreement was contingent upon the satisfactory completion of the agreed upon tasks within this 6-week time frameHe quoted me a fairly competitive price, and reassured me that he would complete the job expertly and expediently
After paying the deposit, there was an unexpected 1-week delay before Tod and his crew started workingEach time I visited my home (maybe 1-times/week at most), I was stunned both by his frequent improvisation/inability to complete the agreed-upon tasks (requiring me to re-send him emails we had exchanged weeks prior), and by the extent of his carelessness/disregard for my property (e.gpaint all over the granite countertops and newly installed carpet, no protective covering on the hardwood flooring, significant damage to the walls of the basement [which he had been using for storage, but which was not included in the scope of the project], etc.)
The quality of the painting was average-to-poor, and the quality of the trim work was abysmalTod cited chronic health issues and difficulty paying his crew as the major reasons for these shortcomings, and frequently complained that he had under-bid the project (as though this was somehow my fault; I accepted his initial offer outright)Given that things were also running several weeks behind schedule (due, in large part, to Tod and his crew working half-days, taking random weekdays off, etc.), I foolishly agreed to make 1-incremental payments to help move things along
A few days before the aforementioned deadline, Tod asked for a fairly large payment (i.eseveral thousand dollars); I assumed he wanted to hire additional help to complete the work, and obligedThough he cashed the check the very next day, no one showed up at my homeThen, 3-days later, I received a text message notifying me that he would not be finishing the projectI was caught completely off guard; he had never previously even so much as hinted at this possibilityWhen pressed, he cited the same reasons (i.echronic health issues, difficulty paying his crew, having under-bid the project, etc.) for his withdrawalI asked him to refund me the most recent payment, but he felt entitled to the money, and therefore declined
In summary, I strongly recommend that you avoid Tod’s Painting Services if at all possibleThe quality of their work is substandard, and Tod is both unreliable and dishonest/unprofessionalPlease don’t make the same mistake that I did
