Review: On November 9, 2011, my uncle, [redacted]., passed away. We contacted Todd T. Thompson's Funeral Home to handle his funeral arrangements. We chose Thompson's because my uncle was a personal friend of Todd's father and many of our family funerals took place at this facility. We had experienced no problems in the past.

When my mother and I met to make the arrangements with Todd, he told us that [redacted] was eligible for a military grave stone due to his service in the US Army. Since he earned this benefit, we agreed to go with this option. My mother and I asked Todd how we should go about acquiring this and he told us that he would take care of filling out the form to request the grave stone and and all other details.

When the funeral was held later in the week, everything seemed fine. Although the stone had not been received, we paid our bill in full and asked Todd to contact us when the grave stone was installed, since none of my family lives in [redacted].

We didn't expect the grave stone to arrive immediately but we did expect it to arrive in a timely fashion. Once a year had passed and no grave stone had appeared, our family became concerned. I began contacting Todd by phone, email and even submitting messages through his web site. I was never able to personally reach him and Todd never returned any of my requests for information. All I wanted was a copy of the form that he had submitted to prove that the process had been put in place.

Eventually after four months, I started driving 90 minutes from my home to check the cemetery and to also personally go to Todd's office and talk to him. After several trips, I was unable to make contact with him. Once we reached the two year mark, I began making more frequent trips to his business.

Finally, after two and a half years, I caught him out cutting the grass. Both of my parents were with me as witnesses. I asked Todd to make a copy of the grave stone application for me and he refused to do so. Since he would not do it at that moment, I asked him to put my cell phone number in my phone and call me once he located the application. I received no calls from Todd.

At the three year mark, we involved the office of Representative [redacted]s Office. We explained our problem and his office staff made several attempts to contact Todd, but he did not return their calls, either.

All our family wanted was to see the application so that we would know if the request for the grave stone had been submitted or not. If Todd, had just admitted that he didn't submit the form, we would have been fine that but the fact that he refused to answer our questions, especially since we had paid his total bill in good faith is not good business. Also, it was very upsetting to our family that Todd would treat my uncle in this way, especially since he was a friend of his father's and that my uncle was a veteran. The fact that Todd refused to respond or help us resolve this issue caused much anxiety to myself, my brother who was the executor, and my parents -- especially my mother who was [redacted]'s sister.

Representative [redacted]'s office finally gave me the form necessary to make the request for the grave stone. I then did all of the work of gathering the information needed, contacting the cemetery, arranged for a memorial company to receive and install the stone. Filling out the form was not difficult but it was time consuming since I live 90 minutes away from [redacted] where my uncle was buried.

In July of 2015, almost four and a half year's after my Uncle [redacted]s death, his grave stone was finally installed.

Todd's father would be very ashamed of how his son treated my uncle. Also, my parents and my brother and I would have all had Todd handle our funerals but now we would never use his services. We have also shared this information with our extended family. Thompson's Funeral Home handled probably 20+ funerals of members of our family, we were frequent clients of his family's business. We have made sure to share this information with all of our expended family members. I doubt that any of them will use Todd's services in the future. Our Uncle [redacted] was very special to our family and Todd's actions made his death even more difficult than it ever needed to be. I have also contacted the US Veteran's Administration and made a report about how Thompson's Funeral Home disrespected a veteran.Desired Settlement: Our family would like to see a refund of a portion of what we paid for [redacted]'s funeral arrangements since Todd Thompson did not carry through with the services provided.
