Contact Name and Title: [redacted] Construction

Contact Email: [redacted]@suddenlink.net
My first meeting with [redacted] and [redacted] was very positive. I loved the [redacted]'s. They were a hardworking loving family....

As time passed multiple complaints began coming to me. My plumber of 30 yrs was very upset with [redacted]'s way of doing business. They didn't want to do [redacted]'s home. Next my framer of 37 yrs experience wanted to quit because of persistent texting from [redacted]. These text's concerned things [redacted] wanted done. I finally told [redacted] not to text. Then [redacted] would not pay the framer his last draw of $6,100.00. I paid the framer so the job would continue. The framer did finish the job but it cost him approx. $7,000.00 out of pocket. He did continue to come back when I needed him. By this time [redacted] had become an expert home builder via the internet. He insisted on dong the job wrong. I.E. he insisted on bricking the home first. Not roofing first. This caused many problems with the subs. No one could finish their jobs. [redacted] complained constantly. There are no perfect built homes and every home has issues. We always try to work through these issues. In my 40 yrs of building many custom homes I have never had a customer like [redacted]. In the end [redacted] stooped to holding most money's owed to subs, the brickers $6,500.00, the roofers $7,500.00, the painter $1,500.00, the sheet rock/taper $9,500.00, and me $6,100.00. All of the above is mostly labor. He used leverage and blackmail thinking he could control the subs. Was he wrong? The plumber, bricker, roofer, painter, concrete subs and I have all quit this job and do not ever want to do business with [redacted]. I hate these situations and I know the [redacted]'s think differently. This is a short synopsis of events with more not told here. Thank you. [redacted]
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 7, 2015/11/21) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
In Respose to [redacted]'s email on 11/15/2015.
[redacted] states that we owed him $6100. To this date, the framer has not completed all of the framing of the house. But, the framer has let us know that he will be coming back to reframe and redeck the patio roofs, cut the hole for the chimney, frame around the fireplace, and set all 9 outdoor pillars. We have stated to [redacted] that we will always pay the workers in full once their jobs are completed. We have paid [redacted] $3100 of this $6100. [redacted] would not release $4300 worth of our house supplies until we paid him the other $3000. Therefore we have now paid [redacted] the full $6100, while all of the framing work is not completed at our house.
[redacted] has stated that the framer is out another $7000 on this house. The framer has never brought us this concern. The framer that we hired was not the lowest bid that we received on this new construction. The framing on this house was a set price.
To this date, the plumbers have never brought any concerns to us that they did not want to do the plumbing on our house.
When my wife and I would stop by the job site, [redacted] could never be found. We even had others stop by our house, and they would ask other workers if they had ever seen [redacted] during the day. The answer was always no, and the workers would let us know that [redacted] was not at the job site all day long.
The workers on the job site brought many complaints to me that [redacted] did not know what he was doing, and he was doing things in the incorrect order. Workers were always wanting to walk off the jobsite due to [redacted]. I can not tell you how many times the workers stated that [redacted] always had the cart before the horses on how he did things on the jobsite.
I told [redacted] many times that he should preplan things on the jobsite and that we wanted a quality house. [redacted] would always tell me that he does not preplan and he just shoots from the hip everyday. Then when he has problems, he just corrects them. But, we found that when problems arise that [redacted] did not want to hear about them or correct them. Instead of correcting problems, [redacted] just gets red faced and mad and then gets in his red truck and drives to his house. What kind of a builder does this? [redacted] wanted my wife and I to accept a house full of problems and just move on.
To this date, we are completely paid up with all workers/subs and supplies. [redacted] did not know how to handle the issues with this house, and is throwing out the excuse that we were not paying the subs. Items about payments listed below:
Brickers: $6500 The brickers have not finished the retaining wall repairs, bricked a gable, bricked a portion of a wall on the back of the house, finishing building and bricking the chimney, cleaning brick, making some bricking repairs, and repairing some flashing. [redacted] has forgotten to let everyone know that we have already paid the brickers $15,500. Very interesting!!!
Roofers: $7500 The correct amount should be $6400 left to paying the roofers. There is still roofing and flashing issues to take care of and the roofers are working at this time.
Painter $1400: To this date we have paid the painter more than $3000. We wish [redacted] would tell the truth. We are currently waiting for workers to get out of the way, and then the painter can complete his job and get paid the $1400.
Sheetrocker: $9500 A check was put in the mail for full payment. [redacted] has stated to me that the sheetrocker keeps calling him and asking for money. The sheetrocker gave me a call, and I asked him if he keeps calling [redacted]. The sheetrocker told me that he has never called [redacted], but [redacted] has called him. My wife and I feel like [redacted] has now lied so much in his life, that everything that comes out of his mouth is a lie.
[redacted]: $6100 This amount has been paid in full. Eventhough $3000 is for the framer, which all of the framing still has not been completed on the house.
Now lets talk about repairs that [redacted] should be responsible for on our house. We have now had two quotes on the roofing and flashing repairs needed on the house. Both quotes have come in at $10,500.
[redacted] and the brikers were supposed to build a 2'x 4' chimney and they built a 2'x 2' chimney from the firebox to the roof. This was not approved by my wife or me I. Therefore, we can not build from the roof out the 4' x 2' chimney that we always wanted and that was on the house plans. We can build a 32" x 32" chimney, but this is going to cost us $2400 more and was not in the budget.
Brick work repair, flashing repair that the brickers caused, and cleaning brick around the house is going to cost $4800.
[redacted] stated that he would caulk all the windows on the outside of the house. He never did this, and this will cost $1700 to get done.
[redacted] kept jamming boards under our new back patio door to keep it open. There are many other ways to keep this door open. He did this so many times that it has made multiple tears in the rubber weather stripping and already needs to be replaced. This will cost $75.
Therefore, the total costs for damages and repairs are listed out below. We have talked to many individuals and they stated that the builder is responsible for taking care of these costs.
Roofing/flashing damages: $10,500
Repairing and extending brick chimney out of the roof: $2400
loss/damages of us never having the chimney on our house plans: between $5000-$10,000
Brick repairs around the house, flashing repairs in the brick, and cleaning brick: $4800
Caulking the outside of windows: $1700
Repairing the rubber weather stripping under the back patio door: $75
Total cost of repairs and damages to be paid out by [redacted]: $26,975.00
This amount does not even include the time that my wife and I have put in to deal with and get all the repairs taken care of that were caused by [redacted].
Workers and how the jobsite has changed since [redacted] has left:
My wife and I have also been hiring some workers to help build this house from the start. Our workers have been excellent.
We have only been having issues with [redacted] and his workers. [redacted] has been like a cancer within this building process. He brought a negativity to the jobsite and to his workers. If [redacted] was still on the jobsite, we would still be having more problems and issues with this house. You would ask [redacted] a question about this house, and he never knew the answer. It was almost like he has never built a house.
Since [redacted] is now gone, the worksite is very positive and headed in the correct direction. The workers seam very upbeat and want to do a great job. The cancer that [redacted] was putting in this house was killing the progress. This house would probably even be completed if [redacted] was never involved in this house. But, we are now many months away from completion.
We are currently headed in the correct direction, and correcting all of [redacted]'s mistakes. My wife and I should of been spending time with our children and having a good building experience. But, [redacted] made this a very bad experince for my family and we have had to spend all of our time dealing with problems caused by [redacted].
Final Business Response /* (4000, 10, 2015/12/01) */
The only response to these libelous statements and not the reality of this situation is you need psychological help. I suggest you seek help before you have a mental and physical breakdown. I hate to inform you, your neighbor whom you filed a police report on for walking on your property thinks you're a nut case. The concrete men,the brickers, the framer, the sheet rocker/taper, the brick companies, the lumber companies, the plumbing company, the subs that did small jobs for me, the roofer and roofing suppliers and me all think your a nut who need psychological help!
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 12, 2015/12/02) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The situation has not been resolved. All that my wife and I have asked for is a quality house. At this time, our new home has many issues and repairs needed. We are not sure why [redacted] never wanted to correct the issues with this house.
We have presented the facts. [redacted] has not shown facts, but he has just tried to attack me.
Our house is now even currently leaking through the roof after the first ice storm. Just another fact, that this house has issues and [redacted] did not do his job correctly.
We are still asking for the amount within the last email and costs are still rising as we find more issues like this water leak.
[redacted] brought up in his last email about supply companies. We are starting to question their invoices. We have now been charged $13,500 from different supply companies/supplies that never made it to our house. [redacted] never tried to look through invoices and make sure that we were getting charged correctly. Another way that [redacted] has let us down.
