Complaint: [redacted]I am rejecting this response because:[redacted], 9-15-15Tom’s comments to us are in black. Our response to himis in red.1 When I went to [redacted]'s house they told me what they wanted a sixfoot counter top where they wanted the island put keep in mind I did not buildthe island. The island was in another room . 2 Theysaid they wanted a two foot cabinet and then the island I did that . 3 If Iwould have built the island cabinet I would fix it . 4 theytried to mix new with old I told them from the start it wasn't a good idea . 5 once Imade them some new cabinets then they weren't satisfied so they had me do otherthings I've jumped thru enough hoops to try to make them happy . 6 I willdo what they want But they will pay full price. 7 Has Isaid I tried to tell them it wasn't a good way to do it. 8 And alsoI have never seen a range like that. RESOLUTION: I would like to get the problem fixed or get our money back so wecan pay someone else to fix it. 1 When Iwent to [redacted]'s house they told me what they wanted a six foot counter topwhere they wanted the island put keep in mind I did not build the island. Theisland was in another room . The six drawer bank that hadpreviously been an island in our kitchen was to become a peninsula, it was notin a different room, it actually only moved over about three feet. There was noreason to build another drawer bank when the one we had was very nice and inexcellent condition. We didn’t specify the exact size of the counter top justthat it be no bigger than it needed to be. 2 Theysaid they wanted a two foot cabinet and then the island I did that . We asked for a corner cabinet that was about two feet to counterdepth, and for the peninsula to attach to it. We expected Tom to put in aspacer or whatever was necessary so that we could access the drawers. When Tomput our old upper cabinets back on the wall, on the sides of the new biggerwindow, he discovered that one side was one and a half inches smaller than theother side, so he put in a spacer so the cabinets would be spaced evenly aroundthe window. I think he should have done the same thing with the peninsula. Afour inch spacer at the corner would have fixed the problem.  3 If Iwould have built the island cabinet I would fix it . I don’t see what difference it wouldmake, the island/peninsula is just a standard cabinet, he put new drawer frontson all the drawers and full extension drawer slides on the top drawers. 4 theytried to mix new with old I told them from the start it wasn't a good idea . Tom didn’t tell us it wasn’t a good idea to mix old with new.He used all our existing top cabinets and half of our bottom cabinets when hedid our kitchen. (Our existing cabinets were in excellent shape, we had theminstalled when we bought the house. Tom knew from the beginning that we wereenlarging our kitchen, adding cabinets and re-using most of the cabinetswe had) He removed them and put them back.5 once Imade them some new cabinets then they weren't satisfied so they had me do otherthings I've jumped thru enough hoops to try to make them happy . We did like the work he did, that’s why we paid him to make morecabinets for us. We didn’t make any changes toour plan while the cabinets were being made, except that we had to order newdrawer fronts (we paid him for these) because they wouldn’t open passed eachother with the knobs that we had, so some of our drawers have knobs and somedon’t. After the kitchen cabinets were done, but before the stove wasinstalled, we asked Tom to make a cabinet for our dining room. He did and wepaid him for it. When we asked Tom to make the cabinet for the dining room heseemed happy to have additional work. 6 I willdo what they want But they will pay full price. We offered to pay all hiscosts to make a new counter top; we feel that this is more than fair. We arenot the professional, he is. For example, when our general contractor needed tomake changes to our plans he just said to us “this would be better done likethis, is that ok with you” and we would say sure. 7 Has Isaid I tried to tell them it wasn't a good way to do it. He did not ever tell us it was not a good way to do the cabinets, hedid say he would probably not be able to match the stain or the door style exactly,we told him we were fine with that as long as it was close. All the uppercabinets are original, the lowers are either new or have new doors and drawerfronts.8 And alsoI have never seen a range like that. The stoveis a standard slide in range/oven, even if our old stove was put back, thedrawers would not open. I went online to see if this problem was normal, theinformation I found said that this is a “do it yourself” problem, and to avoid“rookie” mistakes like this hire a professional cabinet maker/installer.   Sincerely,[redacted]
