Tony Handyman Services Reviews (1)

Review: In November and December, [redacted] had done some plumbing for me resulting in the master tub not having hot water, half bath's cold water does not work and a bathroom sink does not drain. He started work on my kitchen, fireplace and electrical work prior to fixing the plumbing issues, he kept promising me he would fix them. The fireplace was to be tiled and the gas logs were to be replaced with crushed glass. Our fireplace would not light and we were told to call the gas company and report that we smelled gas. We had to hire a fireplace company to repair it and we still have to hire someone to fix his tile work and the uneven wall he built behind it. He was to pull out the old island and install the new cabinets. He started on the island and we talked many times to him about not showing up and the unevenness of the heights and straightness of the cabinets. He would show up some weeks for only a couple of hours. The cabinets were so bad, they were indented in some areas by 3 inches, tile was cracked or missing, panels on island were all uneven. We hired someone to try to fix some of the areas by purchasing additional baseboard to try to cover up some of the broken tile and uneven cabinets. When it was time to have the counters installed, we were told that the island was so uneven that they would not be able to install the counter. We had to hire a carpenter to take the cabinets out and start over. During this process we noticed how 2 x 4 we not attached to anything half the cabinets were on and off the tile, an outlet was just hanging loose. It took him 4 days to complete this job which we were faced with additional labor costs plus materials. The back wall where he was to tile has holes in it, is uneven and the wrong material was used. the wall has to be redone before it can be tiled. It is going on 12 weeks since he started our kitchen and 5 months since he worked on our plumbing. We are out over $3,000 and still have to hire a plumber, electrician and someone to remove tile on fireplace, rebuild the wall and tile fireplace and backsplash. We are looking at purchasing more tile and we have $270.00 worth of glass we cannot use. We sent him 3 certified letters along with receipts for the work we had done so far along with pictures of his work. He left some personal items here that he has refused to pick up. He also left us a garage and backyard full of debris that we had to rent a truck and enlist the help of friends to haul everything to the dump. I have pictures of his work, receipts of what we paid him, receipts, names and phone numbers of who we hired.Desired Settlement: We are seeking $4000.00 to cover our expense we paid out to date and the cost for an electrician, plumber and tile person. I have not asked for retribution for the length of time we have been without a kitchen which resulted in additional costs for having to eat out or purchasing take out. We will be disposing of his things he left here, ladder, horses and some other items.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

Regards,

I have just included a few of the photos of the work of [redacted]. His statement is not correct, my husband called him night after night to come over and get his things, we waited for over a week and he never showed. He refused to talk with [redacted], he sent me one text after his first certified letter asking him if I wanted him to come over. I did not responsed to this text after speaking with my husband. We waited for several weeks for him to come by and he refused to have any contact with my husband.

He did not show up for days to work, even after we both talked to him about his quality of work, all the things that were wrong and the fact that he was never there to correct anything. He left that morning for another job. One week he was by our house for a total of 1 hour and that was on his way home from another job.

The thing that pushed us to no other recourse but to let him go was when he tried to convert our gas log fireplace to crushed glass. He could not keep the fireplace lit and told me to call the gas company and report a leak, he stated that this was what he had another customer do. He did not call a fireplace company to come out nor did he call Heatilator to find out what the problem may be. He wanted me to report a leak, so I called Heatilator and they said that this type of unit could not be converted and that if he was able to keep the fireplace ignited that it could have caused a combustible explosion.

He knew the plumbing that he did in December was not working properly, how many months did he need to fix those issues. He knew that the island cabinets were a mess, unlevel by as much as 3/8 of an inch in some areas. so uneven that there was over a 5 inch difference on one side compared to our tile floor. There was broken tile and when asked about this he said his guy forgot to grout. The false cabinet doors were not even.

He knew that he promised us for over a month to remove all the rubbish and he kept saying that he was trying to use a relative's trailer. We went to [redacted] to rent a truck and haul it to the dump, he had plenty of opportunity to do the same.

He had taken one of our old cabinet doors to practice removing the wood center and replace it with glass, he had months to do this and never did.

He had months to fix things, but foremost, why could he not do it the right way the first time. Why did he not see all of the mess and fix it on his own. How many months and how many attempts do you give an individual. He had no problem asking me for money which I paid him, because I trusted him to be an honest person and to right byhis customer. How can he make a statement that he called me when all I ever got was a text message. His stuff is still here, why not speak with [redacted].

His truck states that he is bonded and insured, yet I can not find any license numbers to prove this. How do I go about contacting his insurer or the company that has boneded his service.

Three months we have been without a kitchen and 7 months without functioning bathrooms. We are out thousands of dollars, so where is he in helping us? A text message is suppose to make things right and a God Bless? We should have rights, how do we contact his bonded and insurance companies. Is our only recourse is to sue when he is supposed to be covered?

We want a minimum of $4000.00, which will only cover about half of what these repairs and materials are costing us.

Regards,

Pictures show: bath tub faucet no water comes out, 2 x 4 are not attached, island cabinets were unlevel by 3/8 inch, tiles around fireplace wall is bowed and grate no longer fits in.

These are just a few of the problems Mr. [redacted] has left us with. At present I have a company removing the walls he patched behind the back counter and also the fireplace in order to be able to tile the surfaces.

He started plumbing work in December, he knew we had issues, everytime he came to my house I had asked him to fix it and he said he would. Hasn't 7 month given enough opporturnity to do the repairs. He had months to rent a truck and remove the rubbish, he has had my cabinet door over 4 months that he was supposed to remove the wood insert and replace it with glass.

He had opportunities to call the same people I did when he broke our fireplace trying to convert it from logs to crushed glass. He choose to tell me to call the gas company and report a leak as he did with another customer. When we found out that every time our fireplace went out we were building up gases that could have caused a combustible explosion. We could not sacrifice our safety and any further destruction in our home and that is when we told him we did not want him back.

My husband called him for a week straight to come pick up the things he left behind. He would tell him he would stop by and we would wait, but he never showed. He had plenty of opportunities to say let me at least fix the plumbing, he was paid for that in full in December, or I will pick up all the debris as I said I would do. He took all of our receipts from [redacted] which was approximately over $600.00 in paint we purchased. He said he had a contract number and we would receive his discount.

We sent him certified letters on April 25, May 13 and May 29 telling him we wanted our money back along with copies of receipts for all the repairs, labor and materials it was costing us. I received one text from him after my last letter and then another text after the Revdex.com contacted him. He has refused to speak to my husband and the only communication were his two text messages to me.
