Review: I paid top Quality apartments $2200 to get me an apartment ,that I never got .I asked them for a full refund ,and they were willing to refund me for just $500 , claiming that the $1700 went for a guarantor fee that's not refundable ,when I was told it was .Desired Settlement: A full refund

Review: I reached out to a broker concerning an apartment listing that I saw online, I was shown an apartment that I liked. I then put in an application for that apartment along with a non-refundable application fee as well as a deposit. A few days later I got a call from the brokerage company, they informed me that the management company for the apartment that I had applied for required more information. I submitted the additional information and waited a few days before calling back the brokerage company to inquire about the status of my application. I was then informed that the approval for this apartment could take anywhere from one week to four weeks. The time frame given to me seemed a little odd because I had never heard of an approval taking so long, when I questioned it I was told that the management company determined how long it took for a client to get an approval and there was nothing the brokerage company or I could do to expedite the process. I then reached out to the management company to find out if in fact the time frame given to me by the brokerage company was accurate and if there was any thing that I could do to help the process along. While at the management office I was informed that they did not have my application, they were no longer affiliated with the brokerage company and that the apartment in question had already been rented out. I then called the brokerage company and asked about getting a refund for the deposit that I had given them and they agreed to return the deposit the following week, but not the application fee. The manager at the brokerage company tried to lie and say that the money that I had given them was sent to the management company and the money orders were cashed by the management company, hence the reason I would have to wait a week to receive a refund. After informing the management company about what the manager at the brokerage company said, they emphatically denied ever receiving any money or an application from the brokerage company for that apartment for me. Upon the manager at the management company and the manager at the brokerage company speaking I was told to go the brokerage company and pick up a check for the deposit. A couple of days later I called up the brokerage company requesting a refund for the application fee and the manager refused to acknowledge any wrongdoing and refused to refund the money because I had signed a document under false pretenses.Desired Settlement: I would like for the brokerage company to refund the application fee and return all copies of my documents because they did not send my application to the management company as they stipulated they would and with that being said I can't be sure that they actually did any of the things that the application fee was supposed to cover.

At this time, I have not been contacted by Top Quality Apartments regarding complaint ID [redacted].Sincerely,[redacted]

Review: This is previously communicated but I was never given a response.

I was working with your Agent [redacted] around October of last year looking for a place before my lease was up. He was patient, professional, and very helpful. He showed me a couple places to start off to get an idea what I was looking for and we communicated that I will be committed to working with him and I'm not just shopping around wasting his time. So when he asked for me to put down the good faith deposit (which he said it could be any amount) along with the application fee and I put down $500 in total to show that I was serious. He then told me everything is refundable and can be used towards whichever apartment I decide to take except for the application fee.

We then spent a whole day looking at about 6-8 places which at the end of the day I still didn't find exactly what I was looking for. But it was suggested that I put in an application to hold a spot for at least one of them while I continue to look for more just in case if I don't end up with anything ill have this one held. He then suggested for me to go meet the landlord the same day just to see if it was a good fit. Keep in mind in my mind im holding something in place while I look for other places not applying for the place because I want the place.

After meeting with the landlord I was asked to drop off a check for $2800 the next morning again to "hold the spot" for me. I was concerned. I asked about if this means im committing to this place because I still want to see more places and I was just according to him "holding a spot" just in case. I then was told the $2800 is refundable, it is again used to show good faith just like how he said that at the beginning. I was uncomfortable with leaving a check for that amount of money for an apartment that I didn't want but just to hold it for the time being so I never dropped off that check.

Then we had a couple follow up text messages regarding other places that [redacted] had on his list that we were going to look at. I got busy with work during that week so we never made it to any viewings. Next thing I know I wasn't able to get a hold of [redacted] with text or calls. I then called the office where they couldn't give me much info but asked if I was still looking. Yes I was still looking I made it clear that my lease was about to be up and I need to find a place and I communicated that with your agent. I then found out [redacted] went on maternity leave and I was never informed which explAined why I never got a response.

I called the office and request a refund for my deposit since my agent disappeared without communicating and I still didnt have a signed lease nor did I find a place that I was looking for. I then was informed by your team that it was used to draw the lease and it was not refundable. I asked for the lady to escalate the issue to you and explain the situation and confirm with [redacted] . I never heard back from her or [redacted] and that was December. Keep in mind I was out of a place to live, I was promised by your agent over and over that everything is refundable if

I dont find what I was looking for which I didn't find what I was looking for. Your agent suggested that I hold a spot just in case but not to apply for it or supposedly meeting the landlord to see if its a good fit not knowing it was an interview for an application? I didn't bring the 2800 dollar check for a reason because that was not the place I wanted and neither did I agree to sign a lease.

I understand 500 may not be a lot of money to some people but it is the principle of doing business. I signed the paperwork trusting your agent and I showed good faith working with him putting a deposit.Desired Settlement: Refund. I sent the complaint to the email provided by the people from the office refered as a "escalation" email address to the owner of the company. The email address doesnt even exist. I just want my refund and their business license should be suspended for misconduct. They should also better train their broker with the correct info and knowledge.

Review: [redacted], the broker, at Top Quality Apartments took myself and my roommate, [redacted] to view an apartment for rent located at [redacted] and [redacted] in [redacted]. The apartment rent total was between $1,600-$1,700 per month. Once we arrived to the apartment to view, [redacted] did not have access to the unit. She said that her boss told her that the apartment was open and ready to view. She also did not have the contact information for the landlord or super...strange. She asked that we come to the apartment the following day and view it while an Open House was going on. I viewed the apartment and immediately submitted $500 to remove the apartment listing from online as a deposit. I submitted my 2013 W2s, last 6 paystubs, bank statements, employer reference and social security card to [redacted] for the application as long as my roommate. [redacted] said that it would take 5 business days to process the application. Once the 5th day arrived, I promptly contacted [redacted] and she said that she did not know the status of the application. On the 6th day she told my roommate,[redacted], that we have been denied because the apartment is Rent Controlled and that we made too much money. [redacted] never told us that the apartment was Rent Controlled and that she has wasted our time by submitting the application. We demanded our $500 deposit back and she took 10 BUSINESS DAYS to overnight only $400 security deposit. She said that the $100 fee was included in credit check. [redacted] did not need to submit our application because she knew that we exceeded the salary requirement. The apartment is listed on [redacted] for $2,000/month now. [redacted] and Top Quality Apartments is a scam and justice needs to be served. Also, reviews found on Top Quality Apartments: [redacted]Desired Settlement: I, [redacted], would like the $100 deposit back that I submitted to [redacted] of Top Quality Apartments.

Review: H[redacted]o.

As a new resident to New York City, I needed a place to live. I found Top Quality Alartments via an app called Zillow. An agent named, Alexandria, contacted me the next day so we could schedule a time for me to come into their office the following to look for an apartment in the Bronx area. I arrived the next day and Alexandria introduced me to an agent named Margaret B[redacted]. Ms. B[redacted] said that she would definitely find me an apartment within the week. She said that all she needed from me was $300 to "fix" my application. I wasn't sure what she meant by fix, but she assured me that I would be moving into an amazing apartment by the end of the week. She charged my card credit card $312.00 and proceeded with the application in the office. She asked for a copy of my most recent pay stubs, a bank statement and my most recent tax forms. Upon giving her these documents, she said that because my credit wasn't the best and I didn't have that great of an income, that she was going to "fix" these issues for me and that was what the $300+ was for. I realized that fix from this company meant that they change my paystub to make it look like my salary is higher than it actually is and they changed my W2 tax forms to make is seen as though I "look better" on paper. I've never heard of a company doing anything like this before, but I didn't want to be homeless so I figured it was okay. Since it was getting late that evening, Ms. B[redacted] told me to come back the next day to look at an apartment on Zerega in the Bronx and I was guaranteed to get this lovely apartment. They showed me pictures and I cried I was so happy. This was such a beautiful apartment. Ms. B[redacted] said that all I had to pay was the $1100 for the first months rent as well as the $1100 security deposit. However, she did warn me that the woman who owned the apartment was a racist [redacted] woman and did not like [redacted] people. I was confused as to why she would show me, an [redacted], this home if the landlord was a racist. Anyhow, I tried to not let that bother me as I needed a place to live asap! The next day I arrived at Top Quality so excited to see this apartment and move in, as I was guaranteed. W[redacted], not only did Ms. B[redacted] arrive beyond late for out appointment, once she finally did show up, she told me that I would need to come with her to her apartment, in Harlem, because she had business to take care of. This seemed a bit strange to me, but I got into a cab with her anyhow to go to her apartment. While at her apartment that evening, the landlord of the apartment on Zerega(Mrs. L[redacted] called Ms. B[redacted] and asked her when she was going to come by with me, the client, to see the apartment. Margaret lied and told her that we were on our way, which of course, wasn't true. After an hour goes by, the landlord, Mrs. L[redacted] called Margaret back and told her not to bother coming by to see the apartment because it was getting much too late. I was livid by now because I was the client and this affected me. We then had to re-schedule seeing the apartment for the next day. The next day comes and I arrive at Top Quality again, waiting for Ms. B[redacted] yet again, who was late once again. She also had another client waiting on her, who eventually ended up leaving the office as she could no longer wait because she had to get to work. Once Ms. B[redacted] finally showed up to work, she brought me into her office and offered me a glass of pineapple vodka while I waited for her ride to arrive. I didn't think this was normal procedure, but I shrugged it off. Once her ride arrived, which was her boyfriend, they proceeded to drive to her apartment...again. She said she needed to grab something from her apartment. Once we got into her apartment, Ms. B[redacted] started drinking and smoking a joint that her boyfriend provided. They offered me some alcohol and marijuana, but I declined. I was beyond uncomfortable at this point. I didn't know her boyfriend but she insisted I let him drive me in his car while he had been drinking and getting high. Needless to say, once I was finally able to see the apartment on Zerega in the Bronx, the landlord said she would let me know the next day if she would let me rent the apartment or not. I didn't mind having to wait yet again another day, as I needed a home to move into, especially considering it was a week before Christmas.

The following day comes and I had not heard from Margaret nor Alexandria. So I called them myself and asked what was the status of me getting the apartment. Margaret informed me that the deal fell through and the landlord did not want me to move in. I was distraught at this point. I didn't understand why and asked what happened. Margaret told me it was because I was [redacted] and the landlord didn't was any Blacks moving into her home. I started crying and begged them to help me. I was literally homeless. I had already given them money that I really couldn't afford to give. All of that and to end up with no place to live. Ms. B[redacted] promised me that she would help me find a room to rent, but never stood by that promise. I was taken advantage of and it's wrong and unfair. They wrongly falsified my information, promising me a new home, yet it was all a lie. The following weeks went by and I tried contacted Top Quality Apartments everyday with no one returning my phone calls. Once I was finally able to contact someone at the office, I asked for a refund and told them about the unprofessional practices of Margaret B[redacted]. I spoke with the agent named Alexadra and she told me that they would refund my $312.00 immediately within a week. A week has now gone by and I have not see a refund. When I try to contact the office, Alexandra puts me on hold and says that the manager, named Edward, would call me back. Needless to say, he never calls back. I need some help here as I do not have money like that to give to a horrible, unprofessional company who makes promises and lies to clients! I have no place to live at the moment and it is not right. Sleeping in restaurants is not fun and the shelters in New York City are always over capacity. I am asking that I receive the money owed back to me and this company, Top Quality Apartments as wellas their agent, Margaret B[redacted], be questioned.

Thank you.Desired Settlement: Complete refund of the $312.00 paid to Top Quality Apartments.
