Topside Roofing & Construction Reviews (2)

Revdex.com:I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ***, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me
Thought I'd give you an update on our complaint. Topside turned up here yesterday. I had expected Phil, the owner, but they sent the manager and foreman instead
Lance, the local rep of the *** Company, came on his own. He suggested some compromises that should make our house weather-worthy, and, while not actually in compliance with *** Company standards, should avoid redoing the entire job. Some of the issues, particularly "penetrations" such as lights and power outlets, will be fully remediated
We now have a three-page, 28-item "punch list" for Topside to complete, and they've scheduled Septas a start date. If they complete the work in a timely and workmanlike manner, we will pay them promptly and bring a close to our complaint
We'll keep you posted. Thanks very much for your assistance. Glad you're there.Sincerely, *** ***

To whom it may concern:

We were contracted with a simple, straightforward contract stating that we would remove the LP siding from the home, install ½” CDX, Tyvek, seam tape, window tape, flashings and trim.
We sent our most meticulous crew out to perform work in contract.  During...

the job there where some “hiccups” in communication about the contract.  The house was built and sided only to have a 270 deck installed over the previous siding.  At no point in time during the estimate, presentation of contract, or beginning of work, did the customer mention that she wanted her deck ledger removed in order to get the siding out from behind it.  This would require a complete deck removal and reinstall.  It is common practice to not remove any part of the deck on a residing job.  Instead what we do if the customer does not want to pay for the deck remodel, is cut the old siding down as close to the deck as possible, install ‘L’ flashing with Tyvek and tape over it, and continue to reside.  We performed this work.  Customer did express some concerns about completing the siding underneath the deck.  We assured her that it would be completed.  It was as if she had a daily punch list, weeks before we were ever complete.  Customer was kind and friendly; she brought out coffee and had daily chats about work progress.  We admit failure in one aspect of the job.  There was a lack of communication about the gable ends; however it was quickly remedied. Our siding crew failed to communicate that the elevation of the siding system did not plane out into the gables. As with many newly constructed homes, the gable framing is installed with no sheeting on the gables.  When we sheet a home that has this type of construction, we don’t sheet the gables, or ask the customer if they would be okay with a belly band at the junction in order to hide the elevation difference.  There was zero communication about what was going on.  When the customer brought this to our attention, we went back out and corrected the issue.  Our timeline on the job was responsive.  Our employees completed it to their knowledge.  Went back out the following week to address some caulking and minor punch list details.  Went out a second time, to address more punch list items; some missed caulking, and some utility boxes that customer got an answer on.  The third trip was to complete the gable issue.  We removed all of our siding on the gables, installed sheeting, installed Tyvek, tape, belly band, ‘Z’ flashing and more siding above that.  There was a walk through at the end of this day.  She continued to ask for some extra work to be done, but it had an extra charge and she denied the work order.  We do not take shortcuts.  When our employees left she was happy with the work.  The following week I received some photos about the install with some concerns that water could get behind some trim that is directly under the roof eve, and well caulked.  Yesterday, before I had seen the complaint written here I had called the customer.  I was told that I was not allowed to complete the punch list that she has.  I was told that she would not talk to us.   I sit here now willing to do an inspection, and complete any sort of punch list items.  If she would like to remove her deck we can replace the siding behind the ledger.  We have just completed another siding job, and that customer cannot stop thanking us for the quality work that we do, over and over again, as with most customers.
