Review: On 7-31-12 I purchased 4 new [redacted] defender tires from the merchant. These tires came with a 90 K mile warranty. On 4-17-15, I brought my car for service at [redacted] in [redacted] The technician there showed me that : 1. The tires were mounted incorrectly by the vendor . The tires are clearly marked "inside" and "outside". The tires were mounted inside out. This directly led to uneven wear and loss of traction. 2. All 4 tires are currently in a complete state of cracking, better known as dry rot. The tires have only 43,000 miles on them, less than half of the mileage on the manufacturer warranty
I brought the car back to [redacted] on 4-18-15 and spoke with [redacted]. He performed a treadwear inspection and also verified that all 4 tires have dry rot. He then told me that all [redacted] tires dry rot and that the company no longer produces a quality tire.
I called [redacted] back on 4-21-15 and spoke with [redacted] again. He informed me that [redacted] would honor the warranty at around half value, which , since the tires are half way to the stated warranty seemed fair to me.
What I was told next, not so fair. He told me I was locked into purchasing only [redacted] tires , which he himself admitted will eventually dry rot. ( 90 % of online reviews also confirm this) and he also told me that the charge to mount and balance the tire would be $25 PER TIRE, Their normal charge is $ 10 per tire to mount and balance and $3 per tire for disposal fee. When I called him on this fact, he mumbled something about "extra paperwork " to process this warranty.Desired Settlement: Refund Cash , or apply credit to tire of my choosing. I see no legitimate reason to spend more money on a tire that the [redacted] employee himself said WILL dry rot. I did not buy these tires from [redacted], I purchased them from a retailer. I believe I am entitled to a credit to purchase the tires of my choosing, or a cash refund to allow me to take my business elsewhere. I also do not believe I should be paying $100 in mounting and balancing charges for something they charge $40 for. I am not required to pay their employees for the "extra paper work" this job requires
