We purchased a 2004 Honda Pilot from Tornell Motors on September 15, 2014. The car was in good condition and seemed to be in good working condition. The owner, Cesar, had the Carfax ready when we got there that showed the vehicle had only one previous owner. My husband is a mechanic so he checked as much as he could as it sat in the lot. The brakes and fluids looked good. Cesar promised when we purchased the car to fix the door actuator on the passenger back door and the back wiper that was completely missing. He fixed the actuator soon after we purchased the Pilot but then we found out the driver door actuator was acting up also. On October 6, 2014, we noticed the axle seal on the transmission was leaking. As this is covered under the drive train warranty, we told him about it and we took the car to get the leak fixed on October 14, 2014. We had to get a rental car because he would not loan us a car. When Tornell’s transmission shop had it, they checked into an issue that we thought had something to do with the transmission. It felt like it was “shifting hard” into second gear randomly about once or twice a day. The transmission shop “fixed” the leak but could not find anything else wrong. When we picked up our Pilot, it smelled like someone had smoked 20 packs of cigarettes in the car, there was trash all over the car and there was 80 miles put on the gas tank. We were furious and when the driver door actuator came in, we picked up the part and my husband replaced it himself. On October 28, 2014, I noticed the transmission was still leaking. On October 30, 2014, we took the car back in for the “shifting hard” issue that ended up being two bad motor mounts. My husband knew what the problem was and when we took the Pilot to Cesar, my husband explained what the problem was and what needed to be fixed. Cesar loaned us a car this time and kept our Pilot until November 4, 2014. Nothing had been fixed and all they had done was confirm the problem my husband had explained to them. On November 21, 2014, we took the Pilot back to Cesar to get the leak fixed, motor mounts replaced and the back wiper fixed. He did not offer to loan us a car until they realized they needed it longer than just one day. We got our Pilot back on November 22, 2014 and the leak appeared to be fixed, one motor mount was replaced (there were two bad mounts), and the back wiper was still missing, Cesar claimed the wiper costs too much. The back wiper was about $260 at the Honda dealer but my husband found it for less than $100 online. Cesar was looking for the part at a junkyard but could not find a working one. This entire time it was extremely hard to get Cesar to talk to us. We had to keep bothering him to get him to communicate with us. My husband now needs to fix a motor mount, a transmission mount, the back wiper, and a power steering pump because Cesar failed to ensure the vehicle we bought was in good condition and failed to fix it as promised when we found these problems within the warranty period.
