To whom it may concern, my name is ***. I am filing a complaint against Toro taxes located at ***. That particular office closed after tax season was over. I have been directing all my conversations to their corporate office on ***.I went to the *** office on March 8th, 2018 to get an estimate on how much they would charge to do my taxes. I had 10 or 11w-2's and a 1098T from the school I use to attend. I had already gotten a couple of estimates from other tax places. *** had quoted me 250 dollars, and*** had quoted me well over 300 dollars. Stephancy the lady at Toro taxes, ended up doing my taxes when she told me it would cost me $160 for her to do taxes.During the process of her during my taxes she never discussed extra prices or changing the price from the 160 dollar price she gave me in the beginning of our meeting, that 160 dollars price tag is why I choose Toros. Not the 440 dollars I am being charged. I would have choose *** for 250 dollars and saved 190 dollars or continued to look at other tax places. I had the exact same paperwork at *** as I did at Toros. In my conversations back and forth walking with people at their corporate office they tell me that I am being charged for this and being charged for that but that information was not disclosed to me at the time my taxes were being prepared. I would have not agreed to paying that amount of money (The 440 dollars).I have been to the corporate office a couple of times and they gave me papers that they say I agreed to and signed, but that is not true. I actually believed my signature was copied and pasted and put on those documents. I have the folder that Stephancy gave me when I left. Stephancy had stapled the paperwork. You can see by the staples that I have not moved anything in that folder. I also have the paperwork they gave me when I went into their office. The employees from Toros are not being honest with me about my situation. They are telling me the direct deposit was 100 dollars and they gave me a whole list of charges that totaled 440 dollars but that was not what I agreed to with the person Stephancy who did my taxes on March 8th 2018. Stephancy failed to mention her company charges an extra 100 dollars for customers to do direct deposit. I did not realize I was being charged 440 by Toros until I went to the IRS office at the end of March to inquire about the hold on my taxes and the IRS also sent me a letter. I am writing this complaint because this information about what I was going to be charged was not revealed to me otherwise I could have went somewhere else to get my taxes done because 440 dollars is not a reasonable amount of money for me to pay to have my taxes done. As I said at first when I stopped at Toro I was price checking, *** up the street told me 250 dollars that is a hundred and ninety dollars difference. And I could have and would have continued to price check until I find a price I was comfortable with. I did not agree with the 440 price tag. They keep telling me she charged me this for that etc. After the fact they can say whatever they want to justify any price gauging they did but that does not change the fact I was lied to bythe person doing my taxes she told me one price and illegally charged me another. I would not have been any the wiser had not the IRS held my taxes. I would like to be charged what I was told I was going to be charged when I was in the office on March 8th 2018. Unfortunately, they have my bank information and I am uncertain as to what I can do. I have come to personally experience there questionable practices. The deceptive way I was over charged may be a common practice of this company I am not sure. She did not show me my tax return when she completed my taxes while I was in her office. All Stephancy showed me is what I would get after she got her part. If she would have shown me that 440 dollar fee while I was in her office then I would have known at that time what she was actually charging and would have changed my mind. Her intentions to deceive me and charge almost 3 times what she had quoted deceptive and unethical. All I want to pay is the 160 dollars I agreed to at the same time, put out a warning signal for the public to carefully watch out for a change in the price Toro taxes may add without the customers knowledge. Toro Taxes Response • May 08, 2018

In response to Ms. complaint, our preparer never quoted her $160. Ms. was charged according to the fees of each form used on her return, there was a total of 10 W-2s, a Schedule A, and form 2106. We offered to remove the additional schedules in order for us to be able to refund her partial fees and she declined the offer as doing so would have result in her owing to the IRS.

(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
I do not agree with the response from Toro taxes. After the fact a person can say whatever they want to and they can also make the paperwork say whatever they want it to by coping and pasting a person signature. The stapled paperwork given to me by the person who done my taxes shows that certain documents were not given to me at the time my taxes were completed they were added to my file afterwards. What they were proposing to change my taxes after the IRS already had the paperwork made very little sense to me and would only had given me back 90 dollars when they had over charged me by 280 dollars. They are not the only tax company out there. If they would have refunded my money I would have gladly went somewhere else and had my taxes done a lot cheaper. I think the public should be made aware that Toro taxes is over charging customers without revealing it to them. If a person does direct deposit with Toro taxes they need to get the quoted price in writing and be looking at for hidden fees that were never disclosed to them. They have found a way to legally steal money if the consumer is unaware of their underhanded tactics. When they are accused of this behavior again people will see a pattern and hopefully they will be dealt with in time for committing fraudulent practices.

We cannot clarify enough that there are no forged signatures on Ms. return. We explained that the fees are based off of the forms used on her tax return. We offered an amendment to remove the more expensive form on her return so we can refund her the difference, she refused our offer and said she did not want any more help from our offices.

I FILED MY TAXES FOR 2017 WITH Miguel *** who works for Toro Taxes at the location on *** and ***, Miguel stated to charge me $60 for the preparation he said the check was going to arrive at his office when he called me to pick up the check it was a cashiers check, I ask him why its not a check from IRS he sates to get quick.
Reviewing my forms the amount he gave me is no where in the forms so I called him and he said my true return is different and that they charge for forms the amount of $136 but yet my check is missing $240.
he also prepare taxes for my daughter and son from her returns it was $204 deducted and from his $236.
he never advice I was going to get charge that much!

Desired Outcome

Refund I need the company to take responsibility of what happened i am willing to pay what he said he was going to charge.

We offer several options on how the client can pay for their tax preparation fees. One of these options is where we deduct the fees from the client's refund so that they do not have to pay out of pocket. We use a payment processing center for this option which it's called ***. *** receives the client's refund from the IRS and then they print out a cashiers check for the client. That is why the client received a cashiers check. There is a fee involved for this service, which was explained to the client. Our tax software also charges a set fee for the tax preparation which is based on the forms entered; this was also explained to the client.
The manager of this location has tried contacting the client several times in regards to the complaint but the client has not answered her or called back.

All the information on their response wasn't advice at the time, that is the why of my frustration.
When I contacted the manager of the location he then told me about the charges, I told him he should advice of the charges before to give an option to do them with him or not, and like I stated on my original complaint he got me my son and daughter, my daughter only received little over $300 they kept over $200.

I don't want anything from them I just want them to be honest with the public that trust them with their financial information.

I have previously been working with Mandi M in your Phoenix,Gilbert, Mesa location on my taxes. Mandi has not completed the work we agreed upon. She's help my taxes for over a year and half and is refusing to give my original copies back to my. She has claimed on September 29th,2017 through email they would be I'm the mail. On October 25,2017 I still have not received them. I followed up with her to see if she mailed them and she claims she did not have my current address which is untrue as my 2016 have my current address not to mention she has confirmed my new address with me on previous occasion. As of October 27,2017 I still don't have my original documents. Mandi has been with holding my personal information and is refusing to give it to me. She refuses to allowr to pick them up from her office even though I dropped them off to her and she has refused to send them via mail. I have requested time and time again my originals from her in which I am entitled to have.
