Dear Ms***:
Thank you for forwarding the complaint from our patient. We appreciate the opportunity to respond and explain the circumstances of this complaint
The patient claims we gave him a cash price and then billed a different amount. We do have a cash office visit price, but payment is expected at the time of the visitWhen he arrived he completed our Patient Registration form and gave us his insurance card.
As you can see by the attached Registration Form, all patients are alerted that “Payment is required for all services at the time they are rendered unless you are in a prepaid plan in which we participate.”, page 4. They also sign that they’ve read, understood, and agreed to our policies After the patient was seen he did not ask for a cash price and since we had his insurance card and it was an insurance company we have a contract with, we billed his insurance.
His insurance company reviewed our charges, wrote off some of the charges due to contractual adjustments, and assigned to the patient the balance due by him. As contracted, we are required to bill the patient for his balance due
As a medical office we cannot determine in advance what the total visit will cost until the patient is seen. We do have a cash Office Visit price that only includes the office visit. All other services are charged separately. Our staff are very aware of our policies and the newest employee has been here over six months. While in our office the patient never requested to be a “Cash” patient and he gave us a copy of his insurance card for billing
Sincerely,
