Initial Business Response /* (1000, 9, 2016/05/21) */
I provide a one year warranty on all of my new home builds. This home has laminate flooring, which is a floating floor system. The homeowner called at the end of the year of owning the home and complained about her floor cupping and...

separating. I sent my job superintendant out to look at it right away. At that time it was cupping and he thought it would need to be replaced. At that time they found a window that had been open for several months and they shut it. I came back on the second visit with my superintendent and flooring installer and the floor had settled to it proper position. There is nothing wrong with her floor and the cause was the excessive moisture in the home. Once the home was sealed up the moisture level in the home was corrected and the floor is good as new. It is very common for a floating floor to expand and contract with temperature and humidity levels. This floor was installed by a professional flooring installer with the proper gaps from the wall to allow normal expansion and contraction. The homeowner stated that she was told it was improperly installed and that is false. If she had an installer teller that they would have had to remove baseboards to verify the installation. There had been not baseboards removed so that is not possible. I would be more than happy to provide a copy of my written warranty. I pride myself on building quality homes and there is nothing wrong with her floors.
Initial Consumer Rebuttal /* (3000, 13, 2016/05/30) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
The warranty states, "Ridges in vinyl flooring
that exceed 1/8 inch shall be repaired. The ridge or depression measurement is taken at the gap created at
one end of a six-inch straightedge on one side of the depression, held tightly to the floor. Builder shall
take corrective action as necessary to bring the defect within the standards of this Limited Warranty." There are gaps an 1/8 inch visible down the entry hall. The flooring is popping up in several areas, enough to catch on shoes.
Final Business Response /* (4000, 15, 2016/05/31) */
There are not gaps in the flooring. If the homeowner feels the floor is defective, she needs to contact Home Depot for they warranty the laminate flooring product. This flooring is made to shrink and expand since its a floating floor. The reason for the original cupping that occurred was a humidity problem because she had left a window open and when that was corrected the floor went back to its installed condition. I'm sorry that this homeowner is not satisfied, but if she feels the floor is defective it has a warranty with Home Depot and they are the party to contact. If you look at the last page of my warranty you will see it is the homeowners responsiblilty to monitor the humidity in there home.
Final Consumer Response /* (4200, 17, 2016/06/01) */
(The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)
There are gaps. The floor was not installed properly, according to several specialist that have seen it. They also say that humidity being responsible for the very poor condition of my floor, is ridiculous. A person should be able to have a window open, and not have your floor ripple and pop up. It is a shame to buy a brand new house and have a floor like this. The builder should be ashamed for anyone to see this floor. I will invite everyone to see it and I will be sure to let them know who built this house.
A reputable builder would want to take care of their buyers, if for no other reason, their reputation.
Thank you Revdex.com. I hope that something will be posted so that buyers are aware of this builders poor quality of work.
I can also supply pictures as proof of the condition of my floor.
