After purchasing our new home, we signed a contract with the owner of Total Green, Paul A[redacted] to install a geothermal heating/cooling system in our house. He assured us the system will be efficient enough to warm/cool our entire house. Which wasn't the case at all, we paid a total of $32000 and still need an addition heating/cooling system to be comfortable. His technicians burned a wire within the system during installation that caused the system to malfunction during the coldest month of winter, forcing us to leave our home for 4 days. He promised to pay for a hotel but never did. To top it off his technicians also cut an electrical wire for our pool which was fixed months later. Total Green also never fill in the land in which has sunken over time which is entailed within our contract. Overall, very disappointed with this company and their service and lack of custom satisfaction.

Review: Let us start by saying that many of the services provided by [redacted] of Total Green were second rate at best. Total Green installs geothermal heating and cooling systems and some of the work includes drilling, plumbing & HVAC work. [redacted] is a very dishonest person who sugar coats things and tells the consumer what they want to hear in order to prolong or avoid action. [redacted] is simply a sales person who has no mechanical skills whatsoever. His job is to sell a product and once money is collected he doesn't care about the rest. His subcontractors take care of everything and they are even lucky if they get paid. His subcontractors came to us asking for payment well after we paid [redacted] for their services. He does not forward money to them and there was even one occasion when his check to a subcontractor bounced. The installation of the system at our home went on for far longer than expected but [redacted] accepted no responsibility and chose to blame the weather conditions, drilling location, etc. He even went so far to say that the air conditioning units that were to be installed at our home were on a boat being delivered, when the truth was that he had not ordered the units at that time. We could go on and on regarding the issues in dealing with [redacted], but lets get to the nature of THIS complaint.

Geothermal installation includes trenching outside of the house for piping to be routed from the indoor units to the location where they drill the earth. The piping entering our house penetrates the foundation wall. A few months after the installation was complete we noticed that the penetration was not properly sealed and water was leaking in our basement. We had just moved into our home and we had many boxes stored in the basement which we had not gotten to unpack. Needless to say several items were damaged from the water that leaked into our home. It was not a problem to us and we never made a big deal over it. All we wanted was for the foundation to be properly sealed so water does not continue to leak in the house. Our system was installed in 2012. Several emails, telephone calls, and pleads later, here we are in December of 2014 and nothing was done to fix the situation once and for all (despite MANY promises made by [redacted] to fix it). Let us clarify by saying, yes, he did come by to TRY and seal the foundation from the inside by pouring some spray foam on the penetration. This was simply a band-aid on a very large wound. A month or two later and more water leaked in. Repeat again......and here we are in the same situation. Any homeowner can tell you that to remedy this leak you need to seal from the outside. [redacted] has promised to dig up the area where the piping enters the home and seal it PROPERLY for well over a year now. We have pressed to get it done but to no avail.

This is a very frustrating issue and we need it resolved.

Any consumers out there looking into a geothermal system can certainly do better than Total Green. Don't fall for anything this guy tells you. In fact, Total Green claims to be accredited by several associations and councils, including the [redacted], [redacted], [redacted], and [redacted]. Let it be known that Total Green is not a member of ANY of those associations. Just another trick to make sales.Desired Settlement: We want nothing more than to have the foundation wall fixed so everybody can just move on.

Response:

The business has responded. Please see below: [redacted] has made serious and many untrue and embellished comments regarding Total Green and to an extent personal statements not worthy of response. Total Green was hired to design and install a geothermal system at the clients home - which we did. The system works as designed and the client will attest to that. Most importantly, if there was a problem with system functionality (heating and air conditioning) we serviced the system under warranty. We have engineered and installed over 140 geothermal systems like that at [redacted]'s and we are, by many, considered the finest geothermal contractors in the business. Dozens of our clients are happy to offer testimonials about our services and serve as references for what we do. We appreciate the client's frustration with one aspect of the installation. The foundation penetration leaks and despite our best efforts to seal it from the inside, the foundation needs to be sealed from the outside. As of this date it has not been done. Our statement - In 2012 a trusted member of the Total Green LLC, responsible for field work and installation, was found to have attempted embezzlement of a large sum of money from the corporate account. In addition, this "member," was proven negligent in overseeing work done by sub-contractors. The embezzlement and negligence led to a number of debilitating lawsuits which put Total Green LLC in a devastating financial condition - and not able to properly service [redacted]. The records at [redacted] Supreme Court show this "member" sanctioned and held in Contempt. It is Total Green's good faith intent to seal the foundation on behalf of the client. However, the company is in the midst of a reorganization and until that is resolved, we cannot commit to the work.

Review: [redacted] the CEO of Total Green, LLC prides themselves of the having the best technology and the most reliable. They are far from it. I have had nothing but stress, trying to deal with [redacted]. He is just a salesman who subcontracts all different parts of his geothermal process which includes drilling, plumbing, installation, radiant heating, hot water, etc. His company does not have any set subcontractors that he deals with on a regular basis. He does not pay his subcontractors properly and therefore the job is never completed on time or properly. My job which which supposed to last not more than 4-6 months has now gone into 14 months and it still not complete. His Geothermal unit has failed and he will not replace it despite being under warantee. This unit failed on the first time we tried to use AC in my house. My childeren's rooms are without AC. He has failed to respond to any email or txt/phone call. Not sure if radiant heating will work. Not tested. He has been paid full for the all the work he has done. His own subcontractor notified him of the situation and he has failed to respond to that as well. In addition he has given bad checks to his subcontractors who will not respond or work in my house because of [redacted]. Unfortunately this is a very specialized system and only a few people can take care of this. He is not honoring his waranty and neither will the people he brought this from:Advance Geothermal Technology. At this point it would be a mistake for anyone to even consider [redacted] and whatever company he maybe working or running and in this case Total Green, LLc. Please be aware of [redacted]: he nothing but a scam artist.Desired Settlement: He needs to replace the geothermal unit and test the radiant heating system and make sure that is running properly and give appropiate service and waranty and stated in the contract.

Business

Response:

Dear Sir or Madam,

In response to this complaint, Total Green has replaced the geothermal unit that failed. Although only the compressor component failed, the

entire heat pump was replaced under warranty and the system performs to specifications.

When the weather drops below 65 degrees during the day we will run tests on the radiant system to ensure it performs to specifications and make any adjustments as required.

The client has made several serious allegations regarding our business and me personally. I will attest to the fact that entire geothermal system we designed is performing to specifications and we are willing to bring in third party engineer to attest to system performance.

Sincerely,

Consumer
