January 25th 2017 TO: Revdex.com        8020 SOUTH COUNTY ROAD 5, SUITE #100        FORT COLLINS, CO  80528 FROM:  MARK A[redacted] RE:  CASE #[redacted]:   Mrs. [redacted] Town and Country Pet Center is...

truly sorry for [redacted]'s  loss. We do our best to inform our customers of their responsibilities to their new family member. I am the owner of Town & Country Pet Center and was the salesperson that helped Mrs. [redacted]. Mrs. [redacted] came into our store on 1-17-2017 at 1:30 pm with her mom and young daughter. They went directly back to the puppy showing area and were delighted to see our selection of healthy, happy pups. "I’m in love, I want to take them all home”, commented Mrs. [redacted]. They chose to see my Yorkshire Terrier little boy. I took him to the grooming area, brushed out his coat, checked him over, and brought the puppy to the play area with Mrs. [redacted]'s family. Here he ran around and was held and loved on for 15 minutes. I brought our store's  written guarantee and paperwork file to show the family. The first thing I asked Mrs. [redacted] was, "Have you ever raised a puppy breed this size?". Mrs. [redacted] said, no, but mom answered yes. I concluded that I had to have a serious discussion about the care and feeding of this puppy with Mrs. [redacted] before continuing with placement of this pup in their home. I reviewed verbally all the paperwork in front of them. This consisted of the store's Puppy Guarantee, the document about hypoglycemia, and the health certificate dated seven (7) days previous, showing no problems, the puppies up-to-date shots and wormings, and his feeding procedures in my care. I also told them the puppy was active, alert and made great eye contact when I or our employees interacted with him. I focused on the puppies feeding and emphasized, “You must keep the groceries (food) going into him, no matter what. Cook scrambled eggs, cooked beef burger, moisten kibble pup food with warm water, and keep food in front of him all night”. Mrs. [redacted] was listening and commented, "you mean three (3) plus feedings a day?". I answered yes. Her mom also commented that she understood and would be of assistance in the pup’s care. To summarize what I read in this complaint: It is stated that the [redacted]s played with the puppy for "about 4 hours". What I didn't see anywhere in this letter was any mention of them feeding the puppy as I instructed them to do. A perplexing statement was: "He was all of those and more for about 4 hours.... unfortunately, we spent the last 6 hours at hospitals and the animal ER for [redacted]. We brought him to our home again, 01172017 around 1300 hours." This is confusing to me as I have it recorded that they were in the store and purchasing the puppy at this time, 01/17/2017 at 01:53pm (1353hrs). The other concerning statement about the puppy is: He had been vomiting since midnight last night. Seeing as he was in a new environment, we let him go through the day... however, we began to get a little more concerned the second he stopped responding to us much. Those are too many hours for a puppy in that condition to have not been at a medical facility. By the time Mrs. Burtram brought the puppy to [redacted] and then to [redacted] ER, sadly, it was too late and caused this puppy to crash beyond help. Hypoglycemia is a preventable condition. A document on hypoglycemia was included in the packet given to Mrs. Butram which also includes our store's Puppy Guarantee, a health certificate dated seven (7) days previous, showing no problems, the puppies up-to-date shots and wormings, and his feeding procedures in my care. Our guarantee covers congenital defect and as per her request for a refund, according to the store's Puppy Guarantee (read and signed before purchase) replacement of the puppy is contingent upon a veterinarian's statement and testing of congenital defect. We have also included a letter from Amanda W[redacted], the breeder's representative. Sincerely, Mark A[redacted] Town and Country Pet Center
