This customer booked online through a third party website BOOKING.COM and was not a direct customer of ours. Whether guests book directly with us, or a third party website, they are very clearly given the cancellation policy. This is a very...

standard procedure at 99.9% of hotels and same day reservations are not able to be cancelled as we are removing that inventory off our sellable inventory to accommodate the guests request that we hold a room for them. I have attached the reservation confirmation for the customer from booking.com which clearly states this information.
The customer came in and filled out and signed the registration card. Shortly after, very strangely, a young girl came running in yelling for the guest to not take the room and that a child was sick in the car. She left the office and came back shortly stating "You're not going to charge me are you?". We explained to her that she is past the cancellation period and that the room is subject to re-rental, meaning that we will put the room back online and if it is re-rented, she will not be charged. This is above and beyond the cancellation policy which clearly states that there is a 100% fee if cancelled past the cancellation period. The hotel did this as a courtesy to the guest who didn't seem to even appreciate that. She became angry and went on to state that "Well I didn't expect my daughter to get sick and we are driving home now". We explained to her that while we understand her situation, we held the room for her and turned away other customers that wanted her room. Our cancellation policy was not with the clause that she can be excused if her daughter got sick. It also was strange that she was going to drive 6 hours back to her home late in the evening while someone is sick.
She is being untruthful with her story stating that "there were several homeless and drunk people walking back and fourth around our car while my young children, (10,9) were in the car". What she fails to mention is that she was parked on the public street OUTSIDE of the hotel and that our hotel is located in Downtown Eureka. In any downtown location, there will be people walking the sidewalks and that doesn't mean that the hotel is unsafe. She also doesn't realize that we have a very secure surveillance camera system which we actually have reviewed to show that she is flat out lying that there were people surrounding her van. She never even mentioned that this was an issue when she was in our hotel lobby. In fact, another employee happen to be walking back to the hotel and even noticed their van parked on the side of the hotel and did not notice a group of "homeless and drunk people" surrounding their van. He came into the office as the customer was coming back into the office the second time. She slammed our door as she was leaving and told us "You're not being compassionate" and "Good luck with your business".
Lastly, even if there were people walking on the sidewalks, did she perform a sobriety test on the individuals she claimed were drunk? Did she speak to them personally to know that they were in fact homeless? Also, is it a crime to be homeless and walking on public sidewalks? In any event, she is adding fuel to the story to ensure that she has good reason to get her money back which is low and just plain dishonest.
We kept our end of the bargain with this business transaction and held her room so that she wouldn't be without a room upon arriving into the City of Eureka. It's the customers job to keep her end of the bargain and pay for the room that she chose to cancel after the cancellation period. We did all we could for her and she needs to be reasonable in her requests. Other hotels would have charged her REGARDLESS of if they rented the room after or not, and we made every effort possible to avoid her being charged as a COURTESY to her.
We will not be refunding her and if she does not retract these false negative comments, we will be having our attorney contact her with a defamation of character suit.

Review: I moved into the town house motel (have receipts) on 12-06-14 $150.00, and another receipt 12-08-14 $360.00 Receipt #[redacted] and #[redacted]. I used to live in rm. **, but then moved me to rm. #**. when I entered rm. #**, it was totally uninhabitable. It took me an whole day to clean the mold that was in the shower, the ceiling was virtually COVERED WITH MOLD.Then the owners gave me an toilet bowl brush, and an spray bottle of [redacted] to clean the carpet, which took me hours, as I am an disabled individual. now they want to CHARGE ME AN CLEANING DEPOSIT, can you believe these people? then I had to clean the walls, as they were filthy! because the person whom had the room before me was arrested, and they put his belongings in the kitchen, which remains locked, denying me access to the kitchen. Now they want to charge me an extra $100.00 , plus an key deposit. I'm paid up till the 19TH. and do not have the funds in my bank to cover the rest of the rent. not only have I been discriminated against, but I believe I am being taken advantage of, as I have tattoos and am on probation. the room is NOW CLEAN!Desired Settlement: an refund of ALL MY MONEY THAT I HAVE PAID,as I have the receipts on my possession at this time , and the time and toil it took me to get rm. #** in the state that it is in now. Review: My boyfriend and I to residence at the Town House Motel, We've been here 6 months and just 3 weeks ago the Motel management raised our weekly rate from $250.00 to $275.00 w/ a $10.00 late fee if we're late on paying. Management did not raise the weekly rate on all the motel rooms just ours. Town House Management have been get surprise visits from the HEALTH DEPT. and assumed it was us reporting them ( this information came about when confronted them about the increase in our weekly rate). They have limited all enameties that they advertise on their outside sign such as internet and phone use. They also walk in periodically when housekeeping was not requested, denied Complimentary toiletries when requested, open personal certified mail or not inform me of mail service. Continues to not provide standard customer service to us as paying customers nor to guest of ours. They tell our guess to leave, get out, or we're not here. No incoming calls and the reuse of beding when housekeeping. The only reason why my boyfriend and I still continue to stay is because of our pet and finance. But because our situation I feel that we as paying customers should not be treated this way nor taken advantage of. Its hard enough as it is, we just want what we pay for and what the Town House advertises.

I believe that I should be compensated with stay of excution to allow sufficient time to relocate. I would also like to see that Town House Motel management be reprerimandated and held accountable for their misconduct. If anything I would atleast like to see the Town House Motel management be informed of there unprofessional ways of runing a buisness. I hope that the Better buisness beaur take action on buisnesses and companies that neglect and abuse CA buisness ethics on consumers.
