The following is in response to the complaint [redacted] We are more than happy to discuss this complaint further at anytime either with the Revdex.com or the customer, [redacted] Reviewing our records, this complaint was the first indication that this customer was unhappy in anyway We take any customer/patient concerns very seriously no matter what type of concern they are I think it would have been more efficient and effective to reach out to us directly We can assure you, we would have resolved this to the satisfaction of the customer In this response, it is not our intent to discuss practice philosophy and work flow However, it is important to us to be extremely comprehensive in our exam process This means that there will be records that we take that perhaps a patient hasn't had taken before That would include photographs, checking joint/muscle health, and an occlusion or bite check Most of this data is acquired by a dental assistant or dental hygienist which allows us to spend much more time collecting this information but not increase the fee accordingly In some cases that data collection uncovers oral health concerns and in perhaps a majority of the cases it serves as a complete "baseline" for the patient's overall dental health that can be referred to in the future if any condition changes With regards to the $10,estimate for treatment, we're not sure where the miscommunication was on this issue We have a treatment plan with the treatment that was recommended/planned on the day of her appointment that is a fraction of that $10,number The total is $ There are four teeth on the plan and again, its no where near the amount she reported We discussed the area of a missing tooth, I provided her with some "rough" numbers of what it would take to fill in that space if she wanted, but those procedures weren't planned because she didn't have interest in them at this time We believe its our responsibility to discuss anything we see in someone's mouth and then the patient decides what they choose to have done The last issue to clarify is the issue of periodontal disease On her exam she had many probe depths (measurements of gum tissue depth) that were mm (millimeters) and bled when measured That specific record can be provided if needed A healthy measurement is 1-mm (millimeters) The American Academy of Periodontology states that periodontal disease is much more prevalent than believed in the past It states all adults should have an annual Comprehensive Periodontal Evaluation They also state that evaluation can be performed by a periodontist, a general dentist, or hygienist The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) found in their most in-depth research into periodontal disease that close to 50% of adults over the age of have some level of periodontal disease and that percentage goes up as patients age By definition, a mm measurement that bleeds is infection and a periodontal pocket that needs therapy Therapy can include medical or chemical treatment or mechanical debridement of the area The most complete medical or chemical therapy requires wearing trays at home on a regular basis and the trays and medicine that is put in the trays are expensive Lack of full compliance with this type of regime will diminish its effectiveness Mechanical debridement or deep cleaning can be done in the office and in most cases changes the bleeding mm pocket to a or mm pocket that doesn't bleed demonstrating a reduction in the inflammation and infection Periodontal disease is one of the major causes of adult tooth loss in the United States Treating initial signs of periodontal disease helps to stop the progression of the disease We are saddened that the dentist that she went to, does not adhere to a standard of care that we deem to be in the best interest of the patient If her new dentist does adhere to this standard, we would appreciate the opportunity to discuss with them their findings that are contrary to ours Our goal is to always improve our care that will improve the overall health of our patients in the most cost effective manner possible As mentioned, we believe its our role to thoroughly exam the patient and discuss all findings with the patient We want patients to make informed decisions about their dental and oral health We also want them to be comfortable about any treatment provided in our office As such, we are more than happy to credit the patient's account as she requested The credit will be made at this time Townesquare Dental

The following is in response to the complaint [redacted].  We are more than happy to discuss this complaint further at anytime either with the Revdex.com or the customer, [redacted].   Reviewing our records, this complaint was the first indication that this customer was unhappy in...

anyway.  We take any customer/patient concerns very seriously no matter what type of concern they are.  I think it would have been more efficient and effective to reach out to us directly.   We can assure you, we would have resolved this to the satisfaction of the customer.  In this response, it is not our intent to discuss practice philosophy and work flow.   However, it is important to us to be extremely comprehensive in our exam process.  This means that there will be records that we take that perhaps a patient hasn't had taken before.   That would include photographs, checking joint/muscle health, and an occlusion or bite check.   Most of this data is acquired by a dental assistant or dental hygienist which allows us to spend much more time collecting this information but not increase the fee accordingly.  In some cases that data collection uncovers oral health concerns and in perhaps a majority of the cases it serves as a complete "baseline" for the patient's overall dental health that can be referred to in the future if any condition changes.      With regards to the $10,000 estimate for treatment, we're  not sure where the miscommunication was on this issue.  We  have a treatment plan with the treatment that was recommended/planned on the day of her appointment that is a fraction of that $10,000 number.  The total is $3288.  There  are four teeth on the plan and again, its no where near the amount she reported.  We discussed the area of a missing tooth, I provided her with some "rough" numbers of what it would take to fill in that space if she wanted, but those procedures weren't planned because she didn't have interest in them at this time.  We believe its our responsibility to discuss anything we see in someone's mouth and then the patient decides what they choose to have done.    The last issue to clarify is the issue of periodontal disease.   On her exam she had many probe depths (measurements of gum tissue depth) that were 5 mm (millimeters) and bled when measured.   That specific record can be provided if needed.  A healthy measurement is  1-3 mm (millimeters).  The American Academy of Periodontology states that periodontal disease is much more prevalent than believed in the past.  It states all adults should have an annual Comprehensive Periodontal Evaluation.  They also state that evaluation can be performed by a periodontist, a general dentist, or hygienist.   The CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) found in their most in-depth research into periodontal disease that close to 50% of adults over the age of 30 have some level of periodontal disease and that percentage goes up as patients age.  By definition, a 5 mm measurement that bleeds is infection and a periodontal pocket that needs therapy.  Therapy can include medical or chemical treatment or mechanical debridement of the area.  The most complete medical or chemical therapy requires wearing trays at home on a regular basis and the trays and medicine that is put in the trays are expensive.  Lack of full compliance with this type of regime will diminish its effectiveness.   Mechanical debridement or deep cleaning can be done in the office and in most cases changes the bleeding 5 mm pocket to a 3 or 4 mm pocket that doesn't bleed demonstrating a reduction in the inflammation and infection.  Periodontal disease is one of the major causes of adult tooth loss in the United States.  Treating initial signs of periodontal disease helps to stop the progression of the disease.   We are saddened that the dentist that she went to, does not adhere to a standard of care that we deem to be in the best interest of the patient.   If her new dentist does adhere to this standard, we would appreciate the opportunity to discuss with them their findings that are contrary to ours.  Our goal is to always improve our care that will improve the overall health of our patients in the most cost effective manner possible.   As mentioned, we believe its our role to thoroughly exam the patient and discuss all findings with the patient.  We want patients to make informed decisions about their dental and oral health.  We also want them to be comfortable about any treatment provided in our office.   As such, we are more than happy to credit the patient's account as she requested.    The credit will be made at this time.   Townesquare Dental
