Customer did not purchase car from Toyota of Santa Maria. Customer tampered with vehicle and ran into issues afterwards. Toyota of Santa Maria performed goodwill repairs for customer for free. After more issues from customer occurred,...

Toyota of Santa Maria needed to charge a diagnostic fee in order to see what all of the issues were.

115%;">I am rejecting
this response because:
I only signed the credit application because I
was told by salesman [redacted] earlier that day on the phone, that I had no
choice if I wanted to leave with the vehicle, and that the credit inquiry was
to confirm my identity only. I mentioned to him that I did not want my credit
run as I had just had it done from my bank when I secured the loan and I was
going to provide a deposit. I also asked him if it was going to be a “hard hit “on
my credit report. I further questioned how a credit inquiry would confirm my identity
and my ID or Passport would not. Mr. [redacted] stated “it was company policy,” and
he was not sure how it would appear on my credit report.
I later
learned when speaking to Mr. [redacted] that I did have other options to avoid
having my credit run and it was not a company policy but a practice.  If I had known all of the information up front
I would have provided Toyota the information they needed to avoid the hard hit
to my credit report.  Further when Mr.
[redacted] had me complete the credit application, he indicated that I did not
need to complete it entirely as it was only for their internal credit inquiry.
As far as
the "lack of communication" Mr. [redacted] is speaking of, I was very
clear when speaking to Mr. [redacted]. When he asked if I was interested in Toyota
finding me a lower financing rate, I asked him if my credit was going to be run
again. When he stated "no," I again mentioned to him that I did not
want my credit run again and if it needed to be run again for any reason then I would prefer to stick
with my bank and the rate I already secured. Mr. [redacted] stated, "We already have your credit score so we
won't need to run your credit again." It was very clear to me that based
on Mr. [redacted]’s statements my credit would not be run again. If he is not
aware of how Toyota operates he should not be selling people cars. His checking to find a lower rate resulted in 5 additional hard hits to my credit report totaling 6 hard hits on one day.
In my
opinion the “lack of communication” or what I prefer to call it, the withholding of information began before
I had even arrived at Toyota. Mr. [redacted], knew I was not comfortable with a
credit inquiry by Toyota but did nothing to ensure it was my only option. This
again leads me to believe its Santa Maria Toyota’s practice to deceive people
for their own financial gain. Everyone I have spoken to at Toyota has admitted
they receive a financial kickback from the lenders they use to finance people.
Yes I was
given a lower rate and yes I did have satisfactory experience…but like I
mentioned before I did not learn of the deceit and how I was negatively
impacted by Toyota’s actions until days later. If it was their company policy
to be honest with people then we would not be in this situation. As far as I am concerned all Mr. [redacted] did was excuse borderline criminal behavior. After all they still got a sale and what ever payout from the lender. If he was in any way intent on keeping a customer, he would go out of his way to make things right by me. How many other people have had the same experience but failed to say anything. What happened it not ok and for Toyota to dismiss it as a "miscommunication" or a training error is irresponsible and careless.

To whom it may concern,

After reviewing the complaint/concern of the customer who
was interested in purchasing our Lexus GX470, we sincerely apologize to this
customer who took valuable time out of his day to complete a transaction with
us.
There was a misunderstanding in regards to price. The
customer wanted a price of $25,500 out the door (all fees included), and
certain items fixed/repaired on the vehicle. Unfortunately, we could not sell
this vehicle for $25,500 (out the door), but we were willing to sell this
vehicle for $25,500 (plus fees) and fix all of the particular items that the
customer requested be fixed.
Unfortunately, we were not able to complete this transaction
as we could not come to an agreement on selling price and the customer left.
The customer has requested to be reimbursed $84.00 for their expenses/time and
we will gladly cover the $84.00 expense request. Once again, we do sincerely apologize.

Thank you for your time,
Toyota of Santa Maria

Review: The salesman told me it was policy to run my credit in order for me to take the vehicle off the lot even though I had financing from my bank. I agreed to a one time credit inquiry. Once my credit was run he asked me if I wanted to see if Toyota could find me a better financing rate then my bank had offered me. I asked if they would have to run my credit again, he said, "no we already have your score." Two weeks later I received a letter from my credit monitoring company that I had a total of 6 hard hits on my credit report. I did not give any of the banks permission to run my credit nor did I give Toyota permission to run my credit more than one time nor did I give Toyota permission to have the banks run my credit. The 6 hard hits to my credit are having a negative impact on my overall credit worthiness. Further I learned that it is not an in writing policy at Toyota to run your credit score it is a practice. I also learned that I had other options, ie...bring a cashiers check from the bank to avoid having my credit run. I believe I was mislead and not given all the information in order for Toyota to receive financial gain by getting me to finance through them. I confirmed with Toyota that they did receive a financial "kickback" for me financing with them. I believe what they did is illegal.Desired Settlement: I am not sure how this can be resolved. The hard hits cannot be taken back. Maybe the dealership can provide me some monetary compensation.
