Review: On March 9,2015 Modesto Toyotech inspected my 2008 Toyota Prius air conditioning system-not blowing cold air. Paid $50 inspection fee.Air conditioning repair work done on March 11,2015. Written on work order "Technician inspected system and found a/c had no Freon. Inspected system and no leaks were detected. Advised customer to remove a/c evaporator box and inspect for leaks". I authorized repair. Modesto Toyotech technician "removed dash assembly and all necessary components and inspected a/c evaporator box and expansion valve for leaks. Technician found expansion valve leaking". I authorized technician to replace expansion valve. Technician "replaced expansion valve and reinstalled dash assembly. Charged a/c system with Freon and installed dye and inspected for leaks" Technician found no leaks in system. I took 2008 Toyota Prius back to Modesto Toyotech on September 11 at 8:45am. I returned a call to Modesto Toyotech at 3:00pm. [redacted] the owner, told me it would cost me another $600 in labor to remove dash assembly unless the part already replaced needed a repair. He told me, in his own words, that if the evaporator box needed to be replaced for example that I would have to pay another $600 in labor. The warranty through his own business, Modesto Toyotech, clearly states 12000 miles or 12 months on parts and labor.I asked [redacted] how can he charge me an additional $600 labor fee when I already paid for the labor covered by the warranty. He tried to convince me that it only covered the part replaced(expansion valve). It clearly states that the evaporator box was removed and inspected for leaks as written and covered by the labor part of the warranty. I cannot be charged labor again for the evaporator box. March 11-Sept. 11 is 6 months & mileage since 6,670 miles it falls under the parts & labor warranty.Desired Settlement: I would like a refund for the full cost of $812.70, that is for the parts and labor. Or if they are not willing, I would like the total cost of the labor which is $680.00, since they are not abiding by their parts and labor warranty.

Business

Response:

Customer will not authorize disassembly of dash unit for inspection of A/C systems. Customer advised that if A/C deficiency caused by previous repair, It would be covered under 12 month/12000 mile warranty and would be no charge. [redacted] thinks we should be responsible for every component of his A/C system during the warranty period. We respectfully disagree.

Consumer

Response:

I am rejecting this response because:I did not state that ToyoTech was "responsible for every component of the AC system during the warranty period." It clearly states in the labor warranty that ToyoTech was authorized by me to remove the AC evaporator box as well as the expansion valve to check for leaks on March 11, 2015. According to the warranty it clearly states the AC evaporator box and the expansion valve were removed to check for leaks. The issue I am having with ToyoTech is [redacted] the owner, made it very clear to me that if the evaporator box was removed AGAIN that I would be charged another $600 for the labor. I told [redacted] that if the evaporator box or any other part other than the expansion valve needed replacing that I would pay for the labor on the part needed as well as the cost of the part. He expects me to pay the entire amount of the labor warranty for a second time. I would have authorized for the disassembly of the dash unit for inspection of AC system IF I WAS NOT GOING TO BE CHARGED ANOTHER $600 IN LABOR. The dash assembly and all necessary components need to be removed in order to inspect the AC system. The evaporator box, for example, is part of the AC system. I do not understand how [redacted] thinks that he is able to charge me twice the amount on the labor warranty regardless of what part needs to be replaced. All I wanted them to do was to check the whole AC system and to check the part that they did replace, the expansion valve, if that part was working fine then they would put everything back together and let us know that it is not the expansion valve. My [redacted] talked to [redacted] on the phone and he stated that they cannot just check on the expansion valve and put it back together because they would not be making money on this job. ToyoTech is clearly not wanting to honor their warranty. We still have well over 6,000 miles and/or close to 6 months left on the parts and labor warranty.
