I purchased a new *** fridge on December 11, 2019 and had it delivered Dec 12. On Dec 18th I was called upstairs to address a funny smell in the house; I opened the fridge to find it full of thick, white, putrid smoke. I yelled to the wife that the fridge was on fire and to get the kids outside, I was able to unplug the unit and verify there was no smoldering fire. Anything not sealed in the fridge was spoiled by the acrid smell from the smoke and even the sealed containers smelt. I called traders to tell them about the fridge (6 days old) thinking they would be on the spot with a replacement as they had another one exact model in stock but we were told to call ***, *** told us to call the dealer, a second call to Traders we were told nothing can be done until *** ok’s the repair. They managed to get a repair guy to come the next day. Repair guy came and took unit apart and stated it is toast and need a complete replacement, and was due to “poor construction” and the smell made his eyes water even after a day of not running. So I call trader’s assuming they can run over a replacement but again am told they can’t do anything until *** says so. I assumed once the *** guy stated it is toast they can replace it and deal with *** on their own. So it is now a Thursday 5 days before Christmas and one day before the weekend and we have no fridge, no groceries or veggies of any kind in the house and such we were forced to go buy another fridge as we had to start our Xmas baking all over again. Dec 30, I phone Traders to see why they haven’t picked up the old fridge yet and was told that as we purchased another fridge they ended our claim with *** and we would have to deal with *** direct and *** tells us to deal with the dealer. Traders still has our money and the burnt unit is still here.
