Review: Traditional Karate Academy's contract includes a 3 month cancellation policy. This is outrageous to charge their customers for services that they are not providing for three months at $189.00 a month. That is a total of $567.00 for services that are not being provided. Putting this kind of policy in a contract is unfair and unethical. We were loyal customers to TKA until learning of this part of the contract. I am very disappointed in their practice and sneaky attempt to collect monies for services they are not providing. Being a single parent, you would expect a business that you have been loyal to for the last two years to be more understanding of each individual situation and their contract to be fair and ethical.Desired Settlement: I would like for TKA to discontinue their charges on my credit card for the services they are NOT providing.

Business

Response:

The Client (Customer) was signed up for an Advanced Karate program, which is a 36 month commitment, with a 90 day Cancellation Period, which means that at any point in time, she may cancel her program, providing a 90 day notice. During that time, the client is allowed to continue taking classes as usual.

The Client had signed the agreement, allowing for our business to charge her account for tuition, and also signed another line specifically stating that she acknowledges the cancellation policy, being a 90 day period.

When it came time to cancel, the Client did not want to adhere to the 90 day policy, and refused to pay for anything past that day, when she came in.

It was explained again, to the client that we may not cancel any programs until they are fully paid, as stated in the cancellation agreement, which she signed to.

She is not being held for the full amount as stated in the initial agreement, only for payments that are due during the 90 day period. So Instead of her being held responsible, so whatever amount of time she has remaining on her contract, which could be quite a bit of time, She is now being held responsible for 90 days.

Review: I signed up for a year membership (at the first class) after purchasing a trial membership. Shortly after starting I was injured due to this exercise. I was advised by my physician not to continue. I requested to cancel due to medical reasons. They asked for proof in which I provided to them via tracking and delivery confirmation postal mail. It was not addressed so I called to address it again. They still have yet to cancel my membership and are continuing to charge me the fees. After they stated nothing further would be charged. I was never advised of any cancellation issues from the time I started. I am unable to physically continue this program at any time and yet they will not cancel my membership. The continuing charges are causing me a great burden. I am unable to attend physical therapy to help my condition because I'm still paying for this membership. I also put down a $350 deposit towards the annual membership that they will not refund me. I do not feel I should be paying anything further as I only attended approximately 6 classes. Which was not even the total of classes on the trial membership. I feel this is a terrible way to conduct business. I understand if they made any cancellation agreements known, but they did not. And this isn't because I don't want to continue, I physically cannot and have furnished that paperwork from my physician.Desired Settlement: I would like my deposit of $350 returned as well as the two payments of $86 that were taken out of my bank account following the initial contact regarding my injury.
