Case # ***
________________________________________________________________________________... /> Response to Customer's
Complaint:
My outside
heatpump was icing overSo I contacted my home warranty company and they sent
a tech from Traditional
ServicesHis
diagnosis was a leaking evaporator coil/and shradder valvesPlus my system was
lbslow on freon
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------... /> * Old Republic Home Protectoin (ORHP), dispatched
us to Mr***'s homeHe informed us that his
unit was frozenI sent *** *** to the service
callAfter connecting his guages to the Outdoor Heat
Pump Condensor, he found the pressures to be; low
side - psi / high side - psiThis is not what
the pressures are supposed to be at the given
tempsthe day of the callLow side should be psi /
high side - psiOur tech's are provided with
state of the art tools which are top of the line industry
standard tools
The unit was not iced over when we arrived at the
callUpon finding the system low on freon, *** first
performed an electronic leak checkThe TEK-Mate
portable leak detector picked up traces of freon on the
right-front-bottom of the evapcoilGiven the
numerous continuing education classes that *** has par-
ticipated in, he cleared the detector and checked
the spot again, atleast (3) times for verification
After checking the OD unit, he discovered that
the schrader valves where leaking alsoThese valves have
a very small O'ring in them that typically does
not last long under pressureOn probably % of the units
in the field, these valves are leaking
And my out of
pocket costs would be no more than $The next day the warranty company
called me saying the entire
Air Handler system
needed replaced and my cost had risen to $
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------... /> * Working with a home warranty company as an
independent contractor, our job is to diagnose the
system, then call ORHP for approval on work
neededAny time we find a coil leaking on a piece of equipment,
we must call ORHP with the reportORHP decides
which direction to take, be it, just the part or the whole unit
Replacing the evapcoil is simple compared to
the difficulty of replacing the entire Air HandlerWith the coil,
the cost to the home owner is $for the
reclaiming of the freon, disposal fee, refrigerant line mods&
drain line mods., bringing the system up to code
Replacing the whole unit brings in electrical modsand
most difficult of all, the ductwork
modifications
*** did infact inform Mr*** that the
warranty company would be the one to make the decision on
what would happen, coil or unitHe was also
informed that if they replaced just the coil, the cost was $
He was also informed, if they decided to replace
the whole unit, the costs would be between $- $***
told the customer that given the age of the unit,
It was most likely going to be the coil onlyThis of course, is
a decision ORHP makes based on what is most cost
effective for them, and totally out of our hands
Mr*** is over stepping here a bit, making
out like we told him one price, then changed our mind and
increased the price without good causeGiven
that he was informed on the process of working through ORHP,
and the two different scenarios along with the
price difference between the two, it is unfortunate that he is
making these accusations
So I had a second
opinion from a different company and they found my system to be working
properly
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------... /> * If Mr*** can provide me with an invoice
from this other company showing that they checked his
system and found it to be working properly, did
no work to it of any kind, added no freon, and only charged
him a basic service call fee given that it was in
perfect working order, I will gladly refund Mr*** his
$He can fax or email it with the information
provided at the top of this letter
