Travelon RV Reviews (1)

Review: We bought a used 2001 Winnebago Brave from Travelon RV located in La Mesa California on March 2013, as advertised it had low mileage and everything was in good working condition ,with the exception for the upholstery which was in bad shape and I agreed to have replaced and cover all costs .I was promised I will get a walk though on the day of pick up and everything will be checked and inspected, I get there at the agreed day and time nothing was ready carpet was still wet and waited for hours and told us everything was done and it was late in the afternoon and no walk through. After they had all the paper work and my payment was accepted they gave me the keys and that was it.

On the drive home the air conditioning was not working which turned out to have a major leak and I asked for specific things to be checked and repaired and none was done. I returned the RV and gave them a check list of things that needed to be checked and fixed. I bought an extended warranty and yet in the end they made me pay for the repairs they claimed they did. Later on I have discovered they don’t even have a service department like they claimed and had one man do all the repairs who is probably not even a trained technician. I eventually had to bring the Winnebago to another dealer for all the repair, the toilet they installed was leaking, they installed a brake controller, wires were going underneath the spare tire which if I would have lowered the tire it would have snapped wires. The gear shifter was so tight and I asked about it and Travelon RV’ s answer was it is a safety feature which later on was told by a trained technician from another dealer the cable was ready to break.

The city water inlet was corroded it had to be replaced, the relay for the wipers did not work. There was a squeak on the right front and Travelon RV said they checked and nothing was wrong and it turned out the bearing was bad and it even got worst the RV has an air suspension and after further checks it was found that the air bags were broken which led to finding out the coils on the front end was bad. We used it once and the generator failed and while driving the new valance Travelon RV installed dropped on my head because it was only taped and Velcro not to mention we had to fix one of the seat because it was installed wrong and the seatbelts were all buried underneath and the adjusters were gone.

I went back there to talk to someone and met by some man named [redacted] who not only was rude but absolutely refused to hear us out.

We have tried for weeks, months to contact Travelon RV and we just get shut down the owner [redacted]’s usual answer is “don’t worry about it just enjoy it”. I told them it wasn’t even safe to drive it and then when we call they just hung up on us and eventually they just refused to take our calls. While all of these were going on I was contacted by a San Diego investigator regarding Travelon RV and insurance fraud.

All repairs are documented and I had to pay on top of the money Travelon RV charged me for the repairs that had to be redone by another dealer, I paid $950.00 for the generator and $750.00 for the rest of the repairs. I need to be compensated for all the expenses and the fact that I was sold an RV that was basically not safe to drive. It is now September and the RV is still being repaired and we have totally wasted our summer dealing with repairs.

[redacted]Desired Settlement: I would like to get to assistance for the expenses I incurred to get this RV in working condition.

Response:

With regards to Case #[redacted] , customer [redacted]. First and foremost [redacted] purchased a 12 year old RV and as such there is inherently going to be issues RV's just like cars are sold as is and [redacted] signed the requisite paper to that fact. [redacted] test drove the RV prior to buying it and Travelon RV did not hide any faults there may have been with the RV. Second of all Travelon RV made every effort to satisfy [redacted]s complaints we removed and reinstalled all the interior to be sent to the upholstery shop at no cost to [redacted]. Our labor rate as most RV dealerships is $100 p/hr. this was easily 10hrs worth of labor($1000). We had the upholstery done at [redacted] (our go to upholstery shop) once again we has the job done at our cost and passed those savings on to Mr. [redacted], All repairs for that matter were done at our cost and not marked up for [redacted], saving him thousands, As per the issues with the mechanics of the RV that were repaired, Travelon RV does note offer mechanical repairs and all such work is farmed out to a Licensed mobile RV tech, A-Z mobile RV repair thus ending our liability in regards to mechanical issues. All in all [redacted]s expectations for a 12 year old RV were not reasonable but we did our best to satisfy his needs. However the bottom line is he did sign the paperwork stating that he was purchasing a "USED" rv which is sold "AS IS" with no warranty. It is my belief as owner of Travelon RV that we went of above and beyond in trying to help Mr. [redacted].

Sorry for the delayed response as I have been on medical leave for the past few months with complications stemming from a previous brain injury.

Sincerely,

President, Travelon RV

Response:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

First of all when we started this sale it was through [redacted] who was supposedly the owner at that time and [redacted] was the sales person, after he sale we then got passed on to [redacted] who we were informed was another sales person. Now I understand it was a used RV, that is why I asked for new upholstery which I have paid for and as far as removing and reinstalling the upholstery due to it was installed wrong (seatbelts buried and tangled, valances falling off missing screws) I fixed that myself. They did not save me anything for I am still dealing with the repairs. I have all the receipts and every work they allegedly done I paid for. They have not done anything even close to what he says “above and beyond” and in fact last time I was there some new guy was so rude and condescending and even tried to video tape me while I was complaining .They knew everything that was wrong with that RV and none of it was disclosed and part of the deal before I picked it up is that everything was inspected and checked and working Take for example the steering wheel I inquired why it was so stiff and hard to maneuver, their response it was designed that way for safety which is absolutely wrong. I had to pay for it to be fixed and according to another dealer is not safe to drive . We have received phone calls from former employees and even a San Diego police investigating Travelon RV.

I believe my issues are not unreasonable, I was willing to pay for any repair that was required and that was the reason I bought the extended warranty. They have caused me more money and aggravation more than anything.

Response:

Sorry for the delay, this is the first time I have seen this follow up complaint. As I stated before other than the interior on which we saved Mr. [redacted] thousands of dollars having it done at our "dealer" cost plus the removal and reinstall also hundreds of dollars in labor done for free ( I hardly think a loose valance and twisted seat belts warrant a complaint) any mechanical repairs or lack there of were down by a third party mechanic as we do not employ a certified mechanic. And as I pointed out previously none of the mechanical issues were pointed out at the time of purchase. It was not until after Mr.[redacted] used the RV that he complained of these issues. As for Travelon RV having prior knowledge of any mechanical issues that accusation is completley false.
