Tri-County Builders Reviews (1)

Review: I hired this company to install a garage door opener (possibly a used one I have). Two company employees came to check out the job. They recommended I replace a gear instead of installing a different one due to the cost, that some new doors have a beam that comes in parts that sometimes jumps around while opening and closing, and the fact that the opener I had worked fine other than the gear. When I asked about how much it would cost, they replied the part was only about $35 so it would not cost nearly as much as having the used one or a new one installed. So, as a single mother of twin college students, I opted for the new gear. When I received the statement, I amazed when I was charged $319. When I called to discuss my unhappiness regarding the high price, about $25 only was deducted. I grudgingly paid the price. Within a month, my garage door was again not working for the same reason they came to fix. My friend, a contractor was not happy because he felt that I, a single woman, was being ripped off. He called in the hopes they would at least make things right. The manager was not willing to do anything. I since had a brand new garage door opener installed for $320 total, about the same price Tri-County charged to replace a gear. Tri-County manager admitted they charged me $60 each for two employees even though it was a one man job because his people always work in groups of two.Desired Settlement: I feel it was a very unfair price, and that I should have only had to pay one person $60/hr. for a one man job. A $150 refund is requested.

Response:

Regarding the complaint from [redacted], we regret the misunderstanding with Mrs. [redacted] but we charge every customer with a service charge of $55.00, the cost of materials and labor charge for installing the product(s). We can’t warrant electrical products such as a gear that Mrs. [redacted] got replaced and our service men explained that to her at the time of purchase and suggested that a new electric operator would be a better option but due to the cost she chose to replace the gear. Tri County does not charge $60 for each employee, it is $1.50 a minute for two men and majority of the service calls require two men to complete the job. Tri County tried to please Mrs. [redacted], she called and complained and we deducted $25.00 off her bill.Sincerely,Tri County Door Co.
