Building with Trigon has been the biggest mistake my wife and I have madeWe have built other homes with only minor issues that were quickly remedied We have had serious issues with our Trigon home and are still awaiting resolutionProblems are bound to happen, but they are quickly forgotten with a responsive, customer focused builder that provides the same level of service after the sale for repairs This has not been our experience with TrigonSince we closed in December 2014, we have had roof, septic, heating/ac, plumbing, grading, driveway, and many other issues Below is a quick rundown of our more serious issues and recommendations to protect yourselfWithin a few months, a section of our roof was rotting due to faulty workmanship and needed to be replacedWe still have a wavy uneven roof in the front and rear of the houseFollowing a structural inspection, none of the trusses covering a significant area in the front and rear of the house are on the same planeAdditionally, there are multiple code violations and other workmanship issuesWe had sewage in our yard twice that finally led to the health department requiring additional lines be added to our drain field I was told by the inspector that this is only the 3rd time in years he’s seen this in a new homeWe were told during an asphalt estimate that the garage pad area had issues because it did not have a proper gravel base that caused “rebound.” The estimate requires tons of gravel to fix it and this is from a company referred to us by TrigonTwo other estimates identified the same issuesAdditionally, we have driveway liner exposed in multiple areas due to the driveway sinking and spreading within a few weeks of closingTrigon has implied they will fix this, but it’s been months now!
Also, we had unresolved grading issues We have sink holes that have formed in the yard and areas of ponding water Trigon did attempt to fix areas of ponding water from our “punch list,” but used rock filled clay soil from one of their build sites and seed blankets that created more problems than we initially had They did this repair without consulting or scheduling with us, not even a knock on the door…trucks just showed upThis has happened on other occasions and we find this unprofessional/disrespectfulWe recently fixed their “repair” as a concession for them to fix remaining issues…stupid us!
We have many other issues but are limited on space here Another neighbor set up a website to document their Trigon problems and hired an attorney*** will not allow links, so you need to look up *** *** ***The site includes pictures and videosIf you are thinking about constructing a home with any builder, do your homework Conduct a background check or Google search on not just the business name, but more importantly the manager/ownerWe never would have purchased from Trigon if we had followed this advice Ask…Does the builder have a separate warranty department to handle repairs/scheduling? Do they have a quality assurance program to oversee subcontractor workmanship? Do they offer a warranty that is competitive in the industry? Do they offer a 1yr warranty covering all defects, 2yrs on plumbing/HVAC components, and a 10yr structural? Do locals build with them (this says a lot)? Get everything in writingDo not fall for, “Don’t you trust me?” I recommend you go through their neighborhoods and talk to homeowners (not just the homes they take you to) Have a lawyer review any contractRequire this builder keep funds in escrow for repairs! If you plan to use a VA loan, make sure a VA approved warranty is included in the contract My wife and I are disabled veterans and thought VA rules overrode a builder’s contract…they do NOT! Hire an inspector for each building milestone If you ask about negative information you read or heard and they respond with, “you can’t please them” or “they’re picky” go elsewhere In my opinion, not accepting responsibility, blaming subcontractors, and finally labeling the homeowner is how Trigon operatesIt felt like I was buying a house from my dad and trusted too much Do not make the same mistakes! Do not overly rely on testimonials Trigon may have or more, but they may have built hundreds of homes Wait a year before writing a testimonial to see if customer service/repairs are a priority after closing Once problems arose in our home, we experienced excuses, delays, acknowledgement that work would be done that still hasn’t been, and ignored emails This is the most expensive purchase you may ever make, so find a company that stands behind their homeBased on our experience, Trigon is NOT that company!

This write up is a warning. A buyer beware post if you consider building with Trigon Homes. http://dovehillestates.com. This post is truthful and does not exaggerate the facts of what happened during our build. I have a journal that I kept of the problems with exact dates. The builder has yet to apologize for the major inconvenience and extremely poor quality build of home that we took possession of. I even set him down in the house (11/13) and told him how bad the experience was directly to his face. It was clear he didn't care. We should be compensated at this point.
The home building process with Trigon Homes has been one of the most painful experiences my wife and I have ever experienced. The construction phase seemed to go along pretty smoothly and we trusted the builder and his contractors. We visited the construction site at least once a week. Construction started in May 2014 and we moved in October 2014.
The red flags began on closing day when it was clear the house was not finished, the paint was terrible. The painter was actually going behind us during the walk thru on the day of closing. Shutters were not installed, the stonework was not finished, the doorbell hanging off the house. We naively thought that these things would be fixed in the first week or so after closing. Nope. It took months. The doorbell didn't get attached until Thanksgiving. Closing was October 3, 2014.
During our time here we have experienced a laundry list of problems with the house that continue. Plumbing issues, electrical issues, carpet issues, linoleum issues, HVAC issues, cabinet issues, driveway issues. We found out that a listing of a 2 car garage doesn't really mean it fits 2 cars even though it was clearly stated we wanted a 2 car garage during the early meetings. They will deny the conversation has ever took place.
Out of the first 90 days in the house we had to contact the builder or deal with a subcontractor 45 of those days. The house I owned for 12 years had far fewer problems then this brand new house.
There is a large window on the second floor in the foyer of the house that you don't open, its just for light. Right above the front door. During a thunderstorm last night water started pouring into the house underneath the trim. Which means that water has probably been leaking in for a while in the wall and this storm was strong enough to send it into the house finally. It took 3 months for them to fix this.
The foundation has already cracked to the point it is all the way thru into the basement. And the basement door started leaching water underneath the door jamb as the outside of the house was never sealed and wood was exposed. That was caulked last week but water is still coming up near the door.
The builder has never once apologized or taken true ownership of this horrendous experience. Common phrases we hear are "Oh this is normal", or "We've never experienced anything like this with our houses". This is also untruthful because at least 2 other recent builds in our neighborhood in the past year have had awful experiences as well. I hope they post and go public.
When a problem was reported we almost felt like we just bothering them or that we weren't truthful that we were just complainers. To my knowledge we made one change order during the entire build and that was to change the color of the front door. We were far from problem clients during the build. I even ran my own low voltage wiring over a weekend. Really the only thing that has worked as expected.
Their communication has been horrible after closing. Their follow up is horrible after closing. The finishing workmanship is horrible. I can't speak to the framing quality. But based on at least one neighbors issue with his roof, its probably suspect as well. It is clear that they go with the lowest priced sub contractor that they can find and then provide no direct oversight of the quality of work. So when something goes wrong, they feign ignorance and blame the sub. Guess what? I didn't buy a house from a subcontractor. I bought a home from Trigon Homes.
For all of the time we were told something was normal settling. Not once were we warned about it ahead of time. They have no clue or don't want to have a clue. This company does not want to find problems with their homes but try and cover it up or pass the buck or complain that a customer is too picky.

Building with Trigon has been the biggest mistake my wife and I have made. We have built 2 other homes with only minor issues that were quickly remedied. We have had serious issues with our Trigon home and are still awaiting resolution. Problems are bound to happen, but they are quickly forgotten with a responsive, customer focused builder that provides the same level of service after the sale for repairs. This has not been our experience with Trigon.
Since we closed in December 2014, we have had roof, septic, heating/ac, plumbing, grading, driveway, and many other issues. Below is a quick rundown of our more serious issues and recommendations to protect yourself.
Within a few months, a section of our roof was rotting due to faulty workmanship and needed to be replaced. We still have a wavy uneven roof in the front and rear of the house. Following a structural inspection, none of the trusses covering a significant area in the front and rear of the house are on the same plane. Additionally, there are multiple code violations and other workmanship issues.
We had sewage in our yard twice that finally led to the health department requiring 2 additional lines be added to our drain field. I was told by the inspector that this is only the 3rd time in 25 years he’s seen this in a new home.
We were told during an asphalt estimate that the garage pad area had issues because it did not have a proper gravel base that caused “rebound.” The estimate requires 70 tons of gravel to fix it and this is from a company referred to us by Trigon. Two other estimates identified the same issues. Additionally, we have driveway liner exposed in multiple areas due to the driveway sinking and spreading within a few weeks of closing. Trigon has implied they will fix this, but it’s been 18 months now!
Also, we had unresolved grading issues. We have sink holes that have formed in the yard and areas of ponding water. Trigon did attempt to fix areas of ponding water from our “punch list,” but used rock filled clay soil from one of their build sites and seed blankets that created more problems than we initially had. They did this repair without consulting or scheduling with us, not even a knock on the door…trucks just showed up. This has happened on 2 other occasions and we find this unprofessional/disrespectful. We recently fixed their “repair” as a concession for them to fix remaining issues…stupid us!
We have many other issues but are limited on space here. Another neighbor set up a website to document their Trigon problems and hired an attorney. [redacted] will not allow links, so you need to look up [redacted]. The site includes pictures and videos.
If you are thinking about constructing a home with any builder, do your homework. Conduct a background check or Google search on not just the business name, but more importantly the manager/owner. We never would have purchased from Trigon if we had followed this advice. Ask…Does the builder have a separate warranty department to handle repairs/scheduling? Do they have a quality assurance program to oversee subcontractor workmanship? Do they offer a warranty that is competitive in the industry? Do they offer a 1yr warranty covering all defects, 2yrs on plumbing/HVAC components, and a 10yr structural? Do locals build with them (this says a lot)? Get everything in writing. Do not fall for, “Don’t you trust me?” I recommend you go through their neighborhoods and talk to homeowners (not just the homes they take you to). Have a lawyer review any contract. If you ask about negative information you read or heard and they respond with, “you can’t please them” or “they’re picky” go elsewhere. In my opinion, not accepting responsibility, blaming subcontractors, and finally labeling the homeowner is how Trigon operates.
It felt like I was buying a house from my dad and trusted too much. Do not make the same mistakes! Do not overly rely on testimonials. Trigon may have 30 or more, but they may have built hundreds of homes. Wait a year before writing a testimonial to see if customer service/repairs are a priority after closing. Once problems arose in our home, we experienced excuses, delays, acknowledgement that work would be done that still hasn’t been, and ignored emails. This is the most expensive purchase you may ever make, so find a company that stands behind their home. Based on our experience, Trigon is NOT that company!
