The trike was brought in for a service and to investigate a possible problem with the rear drive sprockets and chain and also was to be left for winter storage. It was indeed determined that there was a problem with the rear drive components and new parts were ordered from the original manufacturer...

of the custom trike conversion to complete the repairs. The service was completed and the required repairs to the rear drive components were completed. The customer picked up the unit and returned to Calgary. The customer callled a few days after returning and stated that the park brake was not holding. I had personally test ridden the unit and had not ever tried the park brake so I directed the customer to a shop there to see if they could make an adjustment to it for her and offered to pay the shop on her behalf for their time to do this. I also found out at this end that all that was done to the park brake while the unit was in the shop was a cleaning of dirt and grime build up from the components. I then also has conversations with the fellow from the shop in Calgary who tried to adjust the park brake. He stated to me that the adjustment just seemed so touchy that it was either too tight or too loose and there seemed to be no middle ground. I then pulled the file from the original custom trike build project and found reference to the park brake not being able to be adjusted very tightly from the day it was built. This is just the way the original trike conversion was made from the manufacturer. There was no requirement for them to have a park brake and at lot of them do not. I then had another discussion or two with the customer surrounding this park brake adjustment with reference to the fact that it had been an issue since it was built. The simple and only solution I believe to the park brake issue is as suggested to use a simple item to apply brake pressure to the brake handle while it is parked. This is not a safety issue. Since this issue was present when the trike was originally built new there is no point in bringing it back because there is nothing we can do to make it any better, this was a pre existing problem when the bike/trike was new.
