Trine University Reviews (1)

I am a former student of Trine University. I enrolled to Trine in March of 2014 using my Post 9/11 [redacted] benefits that I earned serving in the [redacted]. In May of 2014 I noticed my monthly BAH stipend was incorrect and contacted the **. They informed me that Trine had put in the wrong facility code and I was being enrolled through the main campus in [redacted]. This caused me to receive nearly $500 a month less than what I was supposed to. I immediately notified the school. They told me they didn’t know that this was happening or that they had two different facilities codes for the different campuses and I was assured it would be taken are of immediately. June 2014 - After weeks of not hearing back from the school with an update I received yet another incorrect amount from the **. I again contacted the university and asked if they had an update. I was told they still have not been in contact with the ** and would update me when they knew more information. A couple more weeks went by and I still had no update from the university as to when they would correct the problem. I then had to contact them again and they informed me I need to be dis-enrolled from all classes at Trine and re-enrolled again and it would be corrected the following day. I then contacted the ** and verified these changes were made. July 2014 – I received a letter from the ** stating that I had a debt with them and owed over $2,000. I called the ** again and they told me that because the school had to re-enroll me in classes the university received double payment for tuition and the school was responsible for paying back this money. I again contacted the university and asked them if they knew anything about the debt. I was told that they were aware of it and were going to work to get it paid back. I then asked why they had not told me about this issue if they knew and they stated they didn’t see it necessary to tell me. August 2014- I then contacted the ** to verify the debt amounts to be paid and discovered that I was being held accountable for $644. This amount was to pay back for a class that I was enrolled in but Trine University cancelled du to a lack of participants. I asked them why I was responsible for paying back a class when the school cancelled and ** said it was because the school put it in as a cancellation after the class start date which was classified as a dropped class not cancelled. I then contacted the school again and asked them to change the status of the class from dropped to cancelled. They told me there wasn’t anything they could do about it and if I wanted to hear that for myself they could do a conference call with the **. The ** then denied this conference call and the school was not willing to contact the **. I then had to contact the ** myself and ask them what the process was to change this. The ** told me that it was simply a form that needed filled out by the school only and that the school should’ve been aware of this form. I relayed the information to the university again and they submitted the changes.
It took from May 15, 2014 until August 29, 2014 to fix a very large mistake on the schools end. The school constantly gave excuses such as they were not aware of the different facility codes, they couldn’t get a hold of the **, or simply it wasn’t their job to fix it. I had to constantly call the school for updates. They would give me completion dates and follow up dates and would never follow through with either. I had my ** representative at Trine University, the Assistant Vice President for Enrollment Management, as well as the Dean of the [redacted] campus and other faculty involved in trying to sort this out. They could never give me answers and I was constantly getting a run around. They continued to try to blame the ** for everything when in fact it was the schools error in the first place. This mistake was not only on my account it was to other Veteran students as well.
I have never experienced such incompetence in faculty than I have at Trine University. It was very unsettling to know that when I called the school they were full of empty promises and treated it as if it were nothing. This experience caused an enormous amount of financial and emotional stress on my family as I counted on that income.
Once, the school found out that I was transferring to another school they were even quicker to rush me off the phone, and do the bare minimum to get me out the door and simply be done with it.
This is only the beginning of the issues at Trine University. My husband is also a student here and is experience numerous other issues that are taking months to be resolved. He to is now apply to other schools and will be leaving Trine University at the end of his current semester.
