I have reviewed the response offer made by the business in reference to complaint ID [redacted], and have determined that this proposed action would not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
Ms. [redacted] gave the roof to us as a gift but [redacted] and I are the co owners of the house and land. We asked that the roof be put on because of the extremely windy conditions on the hill. Two to three screws would not have held this roof on our house. We had a conversation with Mr. [redacted] and expressed our concern around the condition of the board behind the guttering. He said he would look for that type board if needed. Once again, we trusted Mr. [redacted] to do the right thing. We realized the new guttering was larger and looked better. The splash guard was needed because Mr. [redacted] had to come back to put chalking between the guttering and the board because water ran between the back of the guttering. The boot around the pipe was a joint issue with Mr. [redacted] talking to the stove man from West Virginia. He also agreed we had ordered the correct boot. When it arrived he came up angry but agreed to install it. He left to get the correct screws. He then texted me and said he had promised his daughter he would do something with her so we told him to come back Monday. We had had a slow leak around the pipe with some stain from moisture on the ceiling. It was so slow it was hard to tell if it was leaking once Mr. [redacted] installed the boot.I apologize for calling the stuff bug screening but that is how it was described to me. I know the ends of the roof look better and more closed then before.I did text Mr. [redacted] and simply asked him to do the right thing. We had heard he was a man of honor and I eluded to that in my text. I was not rude! The fact remains that word of mouth is very important in any community. Teachers have a network and I have reservations in recommending others to seek any contracting jobs with Mr. [redacted].The final fact is we were charged $1500 to repair our new roof. We trusted Mr. [redacted] to do the job correctly the first time.

I received a letter of a complaint for a Ms. [redacted] on a roof that was done on [redacted].  You can delete the names out on my response if you want. After reviewing the complaint #[redacted]. I have quite a few responses and information to give. #1. is [redacted]...

[redacted] is not the paying party in this dispute. [redacted] is the paying party.  2. The knowledge of the contractor who supposedly corrected the roof is very limited if any at all. Case in point the Bug Guard she is referring to is non existent . I believe what they are referring to is What is called STOP strip which is designed to stop air which causes condensation from entering a slatted roof in which the insulation is exposed or the inside of a structure. in this case the structure is covered by 1/2 in plywood. 15lb  felt or heavier., a layer of 25 years 3 tab shingles with what was agreed upon titanium UdL 30lb moisture barrier over the shingles (Condensation barrier) then the metal roofing.  therefore if even correctly identified as Stop Strip in this case its unnecessary for it to be applied. The helpers  I used for the job were [redacted]  (A licensed contractor) and [redacted] who has 20 years roofing experience.  I myself have many years experience. So our knowledge of doing roofing correctly is unmatched and the job was done correctly.3. The guttering I replaced was a 4inch I replaced it with a  6inch system which applied to a 4/12 pitch roof does not need a splash guard. the house had fascia board on it therefore finding the studs was also unnecessary.4. the roofing was not short it was ran even with existing roofing.  which drip edge is already existing also. I received a text from either ms. [redacted] or [redacted] (tenants not paying party) saying that [redacted] had also put drip edge on the roof. which was also unnecessary since it had already been installed previously.5. the Chimney boot. the original stainless steel fireplace boot is what I have always reused to seal the existing fireplace . we do a layering process wit the metal to divert water and also a 50yr warranty Through the roof  urethane sealant. Which in my 10 years experience is proper way to install.  The homeowner liked the work. The other ladies living there didn't like the looks of the original pipeboot. (After payment was received) they called an asked what were the other options for the pipe. I responded with you can buy a High temperature pipe boot. They didn't like the fact that it is a orange boot. So they independently searched for boots online. They called me said they had a boot could I come and install it. ( week or more later after a few hard rains) I came down to install boot. The boot was a normal neoprene boot not a high temperature boot. no warranty papers or any information with it. I asked if my original pipe boot had leaked. and they said it indeed had not.  I explained that the boot was incorrect and would rather not install. they insisted I put it on. they didn't have the screws to install it and insisted I pay the money for the screws.. I didn't install the boot that day due to no screws but came back after asked again to install. (against my professional opinion)      I came down to install the boot (Free of charge I may add due to incorrect boot) with the screws I paid for. I installed the boot and the tenants not paying party thought that the boot was to go under the metal. Which it doesn't. She didn't like the looks of it and texted pretty rude comments to me and said she would take me to court. 6. The money listed in the complaint is also wrong. $3,900 is incorrect and the money she texted me rudely and said she paid [redacted] was $1200. which was for unnecessary work.  I just want to note that I also replaced 2 21ft pieces of metal and trim at 77 flat rd. Free of charge on my time and paying my workers out of my pocket. I installed the incorrect boot ( for free) against my best judgement to satisfy the tenants because this is a small community and word of mouth is best advertising. roofing is a family business and has been in my family for 50 years. my father [redacted] home improvements has been in business for 30 years I have been doing roofing since literally I was a child but steadily since I was 18 years old. I am the Lead man for [redacted] home improvements . you can check your records we have never had a complaint against us. We take pride in our work.  The Trinity Construction company is my attempt to go out on my own. This is was a side job. I have a C Class contractors license [redacted]  This is a case where unknowledgeable ladies were taken advantage of by [redacted].  I would like for my 1 year warranty to be lifted off this job due to removal of my product by an unknowledgeable contractor.  if any Questions you can call me at [redacted] if they would like to take legal action I will be more than glad to present the evidence.    thanks

Review: [redacted] installed a metal roof over an existing shingled roof. He did the following: Did not use the proper length screws needed to secure the roof over shingles, did not install bug guards at eave and/or at the ends of the roof, roof is 4 1/2 off center with several ill matching parts, did not install screws closely enough to insure against buckling of roof as it is heated over the years, did not leave enough overhang to allow water to run into the new gutters, did not put screws in the studs to hold the guttering in place, only installed two screws to hold one eave and one screw to hold the other eave in place and installed a boot around the chimney incorrectly.Since that time we have had another contractor correct the mistakes made with a new boot and additional costs to us to insure the roof stays in place.Desired Settlement: We would like the $1500 we paid the other contractor to correct the mistakes made on the additional roof. [redacted] has installed bug guards, installed over 600 additional screws to hold the roof and installed a splash plate to insure water drainage into the gutters. He has also put screws in the studs to hold the guttering on the roof and installed a new boot around the chimney so it does not leak.
