Honesty, generosity and integrity! These three words summarize my experience with Dave Berner of Switala-Berner Construction. I called to make an appointment for an estimate to fix a leak in our roof that was creating a stain on our ceiling. Dave, immediately returned my call and told me he could come out the next day. He was very thorough and inspected a crawl space in my attic where the leak was coming in, all of our upstairs rooms and finally checked out the roof and soffits. He explained what was likely the problem and told me how to fix it and the materials to buy and where to buy them. He had me join him on the roof and pointed out all of the spots I needed to address. He also gave me advice on how to prevent ice dams from forming and showed me how to fix that problem too. In all, Dave spent nearly 45 minutes giving me free advice. The house had a second layer of shingles put on about 7 years ago and he appreciated that I wanted to wait several more years before considering a complete tear off. Short of replacing an entire section of the roof, he essentially told me what he would have done as a patch job, but asked if I was handy enough to tackle it myself. I was up on the roof the very next day following his directions. Only time will tell if I fixed the problem, but regardless of my roof repair ability, I will certainly call Dave when I need to replace the roof. It's rare to find this kind of customer service these days! I highly recommend calling Switala-Berner for any of your roofing needs. You can rest assured you will be treated fairly and honestly.

Dave Berner just completed the siding and gutters on my home and put on a new roof last fall. I can't say enough good things about the work Dave and his team did. Dave is a perfectionist. He pays very close attention to every little detail, even the nail placement on the aluminum window wrap is perfect. I put a ton of time and thought into this project and wanted everything to be perfect. I tried to anticipate every possible detail of this job in advance but was thrilled with the added suggestions that Dave made and I had not thought of. Normally I find it stressful to be at work when something is being done at my home. I like to be around to have some input, but I did not feel this way during this project. When something would come up in the project, he always had a great solution. The communication was fantastic. Dave would call me at night to review what had been done during the day and ask if I was happy with the way it was progressing. He even texted me a picture the first day, so I could see how the new siding color looked on my home. I was always kept apprised of when they would be working and what they thought they would accomplish each day. I have had a new roof done in the past by different contractor, and they left a huge mess. There were pieces of roofing and nails in my lawn and landscaping. I was thrilled with the way Dave Berner's crew did the job and maintained my yard while doing both the roof and the siding. They were so careful of every little bit of debris. With this job, it could have been a big mess, especially with the snow. I have a dog who is always running around the yard and was so grateful that I didn't have to worry about him getting hurt from stepping on something. I am absolutely thrilled with the outcome of this project and would highly recommend Switala Berner Construction!
