Review: A number of years ago (I am still trying to find the actual year, maybe 2010) my wife and I received an invitation in the mail to attend an information seminar in [redacted], CT. regarding Triton Travel, a travel discount club. The presentation was attended by about 10-12 people (all couples). The club presentation information about how much money could be saved on trips, airline and hotel reservations. A number of people there were very excited about the discounts, expressing their knowledge of costs because they were frequent travelers. I now believe that these people were placed in the seminar by the company as shills.
At the end of their presentation, they spoke about the costs of joining the club, a 1 time fee of $10,000, which would be reduced to $6000, if we joined right then and there. There would also be a once a year fee of $249 for the life of the agreement. This membership could be passed on to anyone as long as the yearly fee was paid and other family and friends could use our membership as well.
When we joined the club had both a website and phone service and they even mentioned how using the phone service could probably save you money. Unfortunately, my wife and I fell for this scam. Shortly after joining, they shut down shop in [redacted]. When I tried to use the service to save money on hotel reservations, I was always able to get a better price on my own than the price the club could offer. After a few years of paying my annual fee and realizing no benefit of membership I called the company to cancel my membership. After not paying my fee, I was contacted by their collection department. After a lengthy conversation where I was told that I was not properly using the service, I decided that I would try again so I paid my fee.
The 1 time that I did use their service to book a hotel in [redacted], I used rewards points that I had accumulated and I still paid $2 more than I would using [redacted]. I am now convinced that this was a scam and I have tried to end my membership. There appears to be no way to cancel, as the contact a collection agency if you don’t pay your annual fee. I went to the Triton Travel website ([redacted]) to get their phone number and now learned that they no longer have a phone number. I opened the contact us tab to get a contact us message page. I sent them a message stating that I wanted to cancel my membership and received no response. I then sent another message stating again that I wanted to cancel my membership, I believed their company is a scam and if I did not hear back from within 2 weeks I was going to contact my state’s Attorney General, the Revdex.com and [redacted] Troubleshooters. It has been 4 weeks since that last message and I have still not received any reply.
My wife and I are now asking for help. We have paid this company in excess of $7000. I now want to recover all my money from them.Desired Settlement: They no longer provide phone service which they claimed was the way to get the best price. They never were able to get me a better price than I got on my own, every time they were actually more expensive. As far as I am concerned, they never gave me what they claimed they would and now they have broken the contract by no longer offering phone service for anything. I have no way to call them about any issue. I am seeking a full refund of every dollar that I paid to them.
