Review: I ordered firewood for myself and my neighbor, an 75+ year old woman who uses firewood to primarily heat her home, from Tropical State Tree Surgery and Tree Spraying, after a long search for available firewood in the area of Nassau County that could be delivered. I explained to the man I spoke to over the phone that I needed seasoned wood and that my neighbor also needed seasoned wood. I explained that she was an older woman who needed smaller pieces so she could carry them into her house, etc. I asked again if it was seasoned wood, and the man said yes. I put my order in for a cord of wood for myself, and a cord for my neighbor. Each cord cost $240, which was more expensive than I have ever paid for wood. After the man experienced some problem with his truck, he rescheduled the delivery of the wood for a week later. When the wood arrived, it appeared to me to be rather large, not the smaller sized cuts I was hoping for, and had asked for with my neighbor in mind. The man explained that the wood was seasoned hardwood and that it was tough to cut the wood any smaller. Typical firewood seems to be between 16-18 inches long, but many of the pieces he dropped off were longer. When he came back later that day to deliver the wood to my neighbor, I asked again if it was seasoned because after stacking some of my wood I realized many of the pieces were rather heavy. He said again that they were seasoned and dropped the load off at my neighbors. The next day I tried to burn several of the better looking, and lighter feeling, pieces of wood. Instead of burning, the wood hissed and turned black, and bubbles oozed out of the side. The only thing burning in the fireplace was kindling I had been given by my neighbor. I tried several pieces of the delivered wood that night and nothing would stay lit. I have a lot of experience starting fires in a fireplace, so I did everything I could to get the wood to burn. I went down and asked my neighbor how she was faring with the wood, and she had no luck either and was stuck burning mostly kindling and leftover firewood from the year before. I called the man the next day and left a message explaining the situation. I called him the day after that and left a message asking if he had any advice on how to dry out the wood, get it to burn, etc. I expressed my displeasure with the sale of the wood and asked that he call me to figure things out. It has been two weeks now and he has not called me back. My neighbor has expressed to me that this is the worst wood she has ever purchased on Long Island, and she has lived in Point Lookout most of her life. A friend who lives in New England and burns firewood to survive the winter's there, thought the wood smelled green to him. I can sometimes get some of the firewood to burn if I get the fire burning hot enough using an over- abundance of paper and kindling, but I am running through both rather fast, too fast considering the amount of money I paid for this cord of wood. I am not sure what the issue is with the wood, except that most of it is obviously wet and hisses and spits out bubbles when I try to burn it. I cannot afford to order more firewood and am at a loss as to how to deal with this situation. I am worried about my neighbor down the street because she cannot carry large pieces of firewood into her home and can not split the wood herself to make it smaller and try to dry it out. I have offered to chop her wood when I can. I am very upset by this because it impacts more than myself, and I feel responsible for my neighbor. For the amount of money we both paid, the product should actually work, but it does not.Desired Settlement: My neighbor and I would like a refund of the $240 we each paid for a cord of wood that doesn't burn.
