I rented this house [redacted] through Tropical VacationsMy initial experience with [redacted] was goodHe was very helpful with answering my questionsI was very disappointed in the condition of the houseWe rented the house for a Spring break vacation to celebrate my grandfather's 84th birthdayWe paid a total of $for nights in this houseWhen we arrived the first thing we noticed was that the furniture was really dirty and outdatedOther issues with the house include: *When you sit down the furniture is not very steady, it rocks back and forthThe bedroom furniture was broken *The television was an outdated floor model with an inch of dust on it *The pool table was very dirty and missing balls *One of the toilets was not flushing *The pool was very dirty, and the hot tub did not get hot *The sheets were dirty and stained *There was a bullet hole in one of the bedrooms *There was wet mail sitting on top of the tv *There was mold in the master bathroom *We opened one of the cabinets in the kitchen and a giant roach ran out The dishes in the kitchen were dirty with dried food on many of the pots and pans We were extremely disappointed in the condition of this house as each of the families had saved and sacrificed for this vacation and we were extremely uncomfortable staying hereThis house was VERY over priced for the condition of the houseThe layout of the house was not bad however it was not kept upIt was very run down lookingI did contact [redacted] late that nightWe wanted to move out and get a refund however [redacted] put us in contact with the 'owner'Some guy '***' called me back he said he was not the owner and they couldn't get in contact with the owner (i think this was a scam) [redacted] said that they would not guarantee a refund and if we disputed with our credit card company they would fight it and we would likely still have to payThen when I talked to [redacted] he asked me was the 'owner' able to help meThey did put us in another house which was actually clean and kept up betterHowever, the other house had all the bathrooms upstairs which didn't work for my grandadSo we ended up having half the group stay in the roach house and half stay at the clean houseThis put a damper on our vacation as we spent alot of time going back and forth between the houses, packing and unpacking, cleaning sanitizing the roach house, etc In addition [redacted] relayed a message from one of the neighbors saying we were loud and he used a racial slur

We booked a property for rental through HomeAway well over a month in advance, paid extra for the CareFree Guarantee, and received multiple confirmations both from *** *** and from HomeAway that we were paid in full and good to goWith less than a week before our trip, *** abruptly canceled our entire reservationAfter a long song-and-dance, he admitted that the rental was double booked and he made a "business decision" to give the property to the other party because they were staying longer than usHe offered us other properties but they did not have the features we wanted and were not available to book through HomeAwayOn top of that, when I suggested we call HomeAway to mediate the situation, he hung up on me! Stay away from *** - he is unscrupulous, unethical, and will cancel your reservation even after he confirms it!

Rented with a group a Las Olas Luxury Condo in Lauderdale By The Sea. The property rented out and advertised by Tropical Vacations, LLC but actually owned by an individual who was contracted with the Condo Homeowener Assoction and not allowed to sublet for less than 90 day periods per HOA rules (we learned later). We were only staying 5 days and were not told by Tropical Vacations Group, LLC when we selected the unit advertised on their website that they were not the true owner but a managing party acting as an agent.. When we arrived (group of seven- all different flights) from out of town we received a text message asking us to come to the offi from the FLL airport rather than go to our rental where we originally were told to pick up our key for entry. Long story short- our unit was no longer available due to a problem of the previous tenant and the subleasing contract violation by the owner. The rental agent was forced to scramble to get our group alternative vacation rental arrangements but due to a marathon event and large booking in the immediate hotesl area, nothing to accommodate our group was available. The agent carted us around the suburban areas and put us in a hodge podge of homes (including the business owner's private home while he and his family went off to Orlando) so that we had a roof over our head each night, but changing each day. However, these were in the Pompano Beach area (not where we had chosen to be nor what we had paid for. We were offered a refund, but our paid amount even if refunded was not enough to cover hotel rooms at that date even if we could find them as our group also would have had to split up. We picked the original advertised vacation rental through their vacation rental site because it was near the marathon route, beach, restaurants and nightlife within walking distance as we were not renting a car; not to be housed in Pompano and have to drive in for all our activities and spend wasted time in traffic congestion. The agent tried to placate us by giving us use of a company truck, but he was missing the point. We rented and paid for Los Olas in Lauderdale By The Sea, not Pompano and being a commuter group. It was not our fault his company allied with an owner who was not supposed to be subleting for short term periods and they did not check that out before managing his place. Also, if we took the refund check, they would have washed their hands of our dilemna letting us fend for ourselves with no accommodations available in the area we had sought to be. As a result, our winter vaction was very unsettling, a shoot from the hip experience every waking moment, and a lot of wasted time being shuttled about Florida. It was a learning experience for certain and not one I would recommend to others. We made it through and Tropical Vacations Group, LLC will purport to say they tried their best to help us through a difficult and unexpected experience, but in the end, I can honestly say they put us there and owed us as trusting customers to bend over backwards to make good on their questionable rental practice. Final fun fact- yes, we had use of company truck to bide us through (even though we had not planned or ever wanted to drive at all on our trip). Agent called us at 10:30 am as we were driving to airport to catch our return flight and offered to get our group a car service to transport us to airport. Offer a little late as five of our group had already left on flights earlier 8:00 - 8:30 am. The remainder took his truck to the airport as we had been inconvenienced enough by that point and told him to pick it up himself in short term parking, giving his exact location instructions. As a result of our National Lampoon Vacation experience, we will be staying only in trustworthy corporate hotels or rentals in the future and avoiding questionable business concerns.
