To whom it may concern: On November 19 111 2015 Mr. [redacted] brought his truck into our shop for repairs. His complaint was Check Engine Light (CEL) coming on. This was noted on our repair...

order check sheet which he signed. If he had an engine miss at the time he brought it to us, and wanted us to look at or repair it, it would have been noted on this sheet. It was not noted and he did not mention anything about an engine miss until he picked up his trnck. We diagnosed his CEL per Cummins troubleshooting and determined that the Turbo was faulty. At this time we notified Mr. [redacted] with a price of the turbo and replacement time. Diagnostic time was not included in the initial quote as fm1her testing would need to be done after turbo was replaced. He authorized the repairs and we proceeded to replace the turbo. During removal of the turbo we determined that the sector shaft had seized internally on the turbo and this is why the CEL light was on. While installing the turbo assembly, we attempted to calibrate the old act11ator to the turbo but it would not calibrate. We contacted the customer Mr. [redacted] and gave him the price of a new actuator, which he gave us authorization to replace. The new actuator calibrated and we installed it onto the new turbo. We determined that the actuator failed due to the sector shaft being locked up on the turbo causing the gears to strip on the old actuator and not allowing for proper calibration. We cleared the codes in the Engine Control Module, performed a Regen to determine repairs complete. No Fault codes returned. When Mr. [redacted] picked his truck up the next morning he informed us that the miss was still there. At that time we let him know that we repaired the CEL light, as he asked us to do. No mention of a miss was made until he picked up the truck. He said that is why he brought it to us. We informed Mr. Laundry that he brought it to us for a CEL as was written up on the check sheet that he signed. He told me that he did not have any more money to do any repairs. I talked with my shop foreman Joe and he said that he was unaware of an engine miss complaint. At that time I asked him to perform a cylinder cutout test to check the injectors. He informed me that the test results were ok, no problems found. He did tell me the overhead did have a rattle to it, but it was cold and typically these engines do rattle until they warm up. I asked him to check the overhead valve settings to make sure there was no issue. After completing this step we determined that there was not an issue with the valves. We could not duplicate the engine miss issue the customer complained about, other than the rattle, when he picked up his truck. I did not bill Mr. [redacted] for any of these checks that we did, in which we had about 4 hours labor. I feel that we did everything we could to repair his vehicle correctly, and the repairs that were pe1formed did take care of the CEL, which is the reason that he brought us the truck to us. Regards, Sean B[redacted]
