TS Home Innovations Reviews (1)

I contracted this contractor to renovate my bathroom. He was to remove the tub surround, install lighting, replace floor tile and create a walk in shower. All walls with exception of door opening were to be covered in subway tiles. The tiling was inadequate. Some of the tiles are out of line and the excess grout was never removed. The shower plumbing was never replaced so the original faucet are still in place. The shower base is uneven and does not drain properly. There is also excessive caulking around the ceiling and sides of walls that was never removed or levelled.. I was also to have glass shower doors installed. These have never been installed since the shower wall is drywall only. There are no two by fours to anchor the doors. He provided a temporary shower rod and curtain that I am still using. I paid the contractor in full with understanding the job would be completed to my satisfaction. I contacted him numerous times since payment was issued in June of 2015 and he has not returned to complete the job.Desired SettlementI want my money back for the amount it will cost to repair.[redacted] Business Response Upon completion of the tile work, the customer was satisfied with the exception of a few grout lines in the kitchen only which she wanted redone because she believed they were too thick. Now after a year and not a single phone call the customer has additional complaints about the tile in the bathroom as well which she deemed satisfactory at our last meeting. The plumbing fixture which we estimated for was rejected as the customer requested something more elaborate which did not work with the current plumbing in the wall. The labour for the plumbing fixture was removed from the invoice. Upon our tile subtrade not showing up, to move the project along and allow the customer to have her bathroom back a tile shower floor base and drain was purchased and installed as per the instructions. The customer was in the beginning satisfied with the base then later decided it was needed to be fixed. The caulking that is to be removed was a cost to the contractor that was free of charge to the customer as she did not like the finish of the tile where it met the ceiling. The shower glass doors that we were to provide as per the cost in the estimate was not approved by the customer as the time to install was near. The customer and contractor agreed that she would find the doors she wanted and installer through the appropriate supplier. There is in fact proper bracing for the doors that we were going to provide. Anything beyond that would be responsibility of the new door installers. We have not been paid in full [redacted]Contractor's desired resolutionSince the customer does not want us to return and the contractor, after our last correspondence with the customer does not want to return as well, the contractor will reimburse the customer for the base install. Any additional labour for removal or the caulking or the free crown molding is in fact above and beyond the estimate that was agreed upon and would be considered additional charges as it is not in the estimate. [redacted]Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)The job was never completed. I was never satisfied with the completion of the bathroom. I keep my texts from my correspondence with [redacted] last year requesting a completion date. He never provided one. He made it clear he would return at his convenience. I asked him repeatedly in June for a completion date. He stated on July 3 by text,"I was being a very generous and nice person by hinting I might make it tomorrow and today is my day off to work so I was being generous by trying to get there so you have to deal with my schedule of which is currently the busiest person in the company." When he continued to be a no show I asked for my house keys back in August of 2015. He never responded to my last text and I have not heard from him since. [redacted] The grout was poorly installed in the kitchen and bathroom tiles. He was made aware of this. He was also aware that the shower never drained properly. The water sits in the base of the shower. I also have the same faucet I had with the tub. He was also aware of this. He had made a suggestion of coming thru the back wall for the new faucet. I was not open to this idea. The shower doors were never purchased or installed since there are no two by fours in the shower wall.I have now hired another contractor to redo the tiles in the bathroom that were poorly installed. He will remove and install new tiles in the kitchen and bathroom and install a new base. The faucet will also be installed. I received a quote of $9300 for all the install work and shower doors. The shower doors were estimated at $1850. I want a refund of $7450 to cover the cost of the redo of the shower base and tiles.[redacted]'s resolution is not accurate. There is no crown molding in the bathroom so there is nothing to remove or install. The caulking was poorly installed around the shower bulkhead and top of walls. Removal of this is included in my quote from the new contractor. It should not be included as a new labour as [redacted] suggests since he did a poor job of installing it. why would I pay for this to be done again? He also charged me for an install of a bench (way too big) and the cost of removal and a new shower kit that didn't work either. These costs should not have been my responsibility[redacted] included additional notes stating there was additional work done. This is correct. He installed some bookshelves and did the prep work for the new kitchen. He also installed the floor tile. The original invoice for all work was just under $18,000. [redacted] was well compensated for the work he did. But I didn't pay all that money to have a dysfunctional shower.I have pictures that I took of the tiles in the bathroom and kitchen. I also kept all the texts and emails between us. I want [redacted] to make this right and give me my money back. I want $7450.00Final Business Response I DO NOT agree with the consumer's last response. As the concern with the subway tiles upon our last conversation with consumer was the grout lines, the existing tile did not need to be removed and replaced but rather the grout would need to be replaced in certain areas. To remove all the tile to replace a few areas of grout that the customer wanted replaced I feel was not necessary. I would agree to provide the consumer a refund of $3000 which would cover : supply and install of shower base and drain, supply and install of subway tile for bathroom wet wall, kitchen tiles and labour for grouting. Final Consumer Response (The consumer indicated he/she DID NOT accept the response from the business.)I replaced the tile and grout because they needed to be replaced. The tiles were not installed properly and were uneven. The grout was also poorly done. It was too thick and had sections that had excess grout. Both contractors who assessed the redo stated that the tiles would all need to be replaced. There is no way to redo the grout once it is dry. The corners were also uneven. I hired this contractor to do a shower. He did not complete the job and what was done was done unprofessionally.[redacted]Unless this contractor is providing a refund in full,no further contact is required.
