I was put into Invisalign ortho treatment that was never completed.
This letter shall serve as a complaint against [redacted] (to whom I will refer to as [redacted] in the remainder of this complaint) at [redacted] (to which I will refer to as [redacted] in the remainder of this complaint) in [redacted] California. I have been a patient at [redacted] since August of 2004. I have put all of my trust into [redacted] over the years, however, over the past year I have experienced nothing but headache since I agreed to let him place dental implants. I feel that he has taken advantage of that trust and manipulated me and my family to better suit his own financial gains. I feel that he provided unnecessary treatment and most importantly, he is charging me for treatment that he never completed. I have attached a general timeline of events to help briefly explain what has happened over the course of this ''treatment.''
On November 2011, [redacted] and his staff approached me with the possibility of doing implants on teeth number 6 and 11 AND billing my medical, not dental insurance for the procedure. I congenitally was missing these permanent teeth and still had ''baby'' teeth present. Originally it was discussed verbally that we would extract my baby teeth and place implants, because my laterals and cuspids were transposed we would then reshape # 7 and #10 to ''look like'' laterals. With all of this being said, my out of pocket expense was only supposed to be for the implant CROWNS that would be billed through Delta Dental, and my composite restorations to 7 and 10.
November 30, 2011- After the verbal discussion and agreement, I had my ''baby teeth'' extracted.
December 9, 2011- It was at my follow-up appointment, that things began to change drastically. At this appointment I was told that I would need Invisalign. When I asked why, he said he wanted to move number 7 and 10 ''In'' and that he now recommended that I place veneers' on 7, 8, 9, and 10. Which would be an additional $5000 for Invisalign and an additional $4800 for the veneers. Needless to say I about had a heart attack. I was now toothless and was being told I needed to come up with $10,000. After some discussion I agreed to the Invisalign treatment and told him that I wanted to stay true to what we had already discussed for # 7 and #10 which was reshaping them.
January 6, 2012- I met with the office staff to sign paper work and a contract for the Invisalign treatment. I was told that I would have up to 24 months of Invisalign and I would receive retainers at the end of treatment. At this meeting I felt nervous because I never fully understood why I needed Invisalign because my teeth were already very straight but, I trusted this doctor.
Feb/March 2012-July 2012- During this time I received a total 7 aligners for my upper teeth and 7 for my lower teeth, which I was progressing to about every 2 weeks.
July 23, 2012- had the surgery for implants at the sight of #6 and #11. I was no longer able to wear any aligners due to the implant body protruding into the space. No impressions were taken for new aligners to send to Invisalign, in fact [redacted] drilled holes in my old aligners and had me wear the old aligners. I questioned the integrity of the now compromised aligners, but again I trusted this Doctor.
September 12, 2012- I explained to [redacted] about the rigged aligners. I told him they were very uncomfortable to wear, and that they seemed compromised.
February 8, 2013- Finally after several months of waiting for ''the lab'' to get my crowns right, [redacted] delivered my final crowns. At this point I had already become very unhappy with my treatment progress due to the fact that nothing seemed to go according to plan. [redacted] seemed to change his mind about my treatment at each visit I had. I expressed my unhappiness to him often, to which he dismissed. At this final appointment I questioned him about retainers and said that I probably didn't need them since I had been out of aligners for so long, and he agreed that I did not need them.
