Tuffy's Auto Service Center

I went to Tuffy's to get replacement brake pads and they told me to come in right away to take care of it. After spending an hour and a half waiting on my car and investigating the issue, they told me that the piston broke in the master cylinder and gave me a quote to what it would take to get fixed, along with new brake pads and rotors...over $850 dollars. They told me that my car was not drivable because of the broken master cylinder, which apparently broke while I was there, so they offered me a loaner car until after they could fix my vehicle, which would be the next day. I declined the loaner vehicle and called to have my father pick me up. I talked with him because he's a car parts manager at a local shop, and he said that the issue and quote did not sound right. I got a tow to pick up my vehicle in the morning and take it to the different shop. After looking at my vehicle, they found that I only needed new brake pads and rotors and didn't find anything wrong with the master cylinder, at all. They fixed my car completely for less than $100. I am very upset with the service that was provided with Tuffy's and am glad that I sought different advice before coughing up the unneeded $850. Also, I am upset that I was told that my car was not drivable and spent money on a tow, when in all reality I could have driven it to the 2nd auto body shop.

I called Tuffy's to see if they could exchange out my headlight last week and I asked for a quote, and I was quoted around $20, and I could run it right over and they'll get it done for me. I got a call from them about an hour after I dropped the car off and I was told the headlight bracket needed to be replaced and the cost would now be $264.00. I declined because I had a bad feeling about what they told me. I went to a different mechanic to see if they change my headlight. That mechanic told me the headlight was "loose" and they tightened it up and it worked just fine. They didn't charge me for a new headlight, or the two seconds it took them to solve the problem. I would think Tuffys could have figured out the problem and been a bit more honest. I've told my story to everyone I could this past weekend.
