Turning Point Physical Therapy Reviews (1)

Revdex.com,I received your letter on April 281h, 2015. It was dated on April 21'1, 2015.I read the customer complaint and I appreciate the opportunity to respond. Oftentimes when a patient is not getting the improvement that we are all hoping and workingtowards, they will become...

discouraged and try and find fault with others.Unfortunately, not everyone is a candidate for physical therapy. The treatment portion in question that was provided to the patient was above andbeyond the normal physical therapy care. She actually received more treatment thanwas billed. She received a combination treatment, which included skilled therapeuticintervention and instructions (diaphragmatic breathing); furthermore, she receivedtherapy for her knees, hips, and Lumbar spine using a passive range of motion machine.During this same time and treatment she had also received an electrical stimulationtreatment (TENS).This is considerable more workload for the physical therapist in setting up the extratreatments to include during the billed unit of treatment (not to mention the extraexplanations and Instructions). These treatments (passive range of motion, diaphragmatic breathing and electrical stimulation) have been provided to otherpatients and have been successful in reducing pain and progressing patients onto fullrecoveries. In fact, I have been a patient that was in physical therapy for low back painand found these treatments to be very helpful in my own care. The physlcal therapist who performed the work was fairly new to our practice and wasasking how to code the treatment correctly for billing purposes. He was not trying tofind a treatment to bill; he was clarifying which treatment was the best one to bill forthe given presentation of pain and dysfunction. This misunderstanding is unfortunate since both electrical stimulation treatments andtherapeutic exercise are billable services. The physical therapist was able to deliverthese treatments together as a combination therapy; normally this combination can bevery helpful in reducing pain.I called my attorney, [redacted] about this issue. She is knowledgeable aboutphysical therapy coding and billing. Please see her response regarding this treatment.
Please let me know if I can be of further help or assistance.
Sincerely,[redacted] MSPT
