Tuxedo Den refuses to refund on a tuxedo jacket their stated procedure on their receipt is not to refund altered items, they claim the tux jacket I purchased which was dirty and they claim was altered, which is not true. Only the slacks were altered and not the tux jacket. Regardless they said the slacks had to be purposefully altered because standard procedure is to order them too long on purpose. And of course the tux jacket is physically seperate from the slacks. Tuxedo Den claims is that the slacks and jacket are “one unit” and thus altered. They of course are from different manufacturers

This customer purchased a tuxedo set from me.
He came in to order the set. He came back in to try it on to be altered. Then he came back to try it on and pick it up once the alterations were completed.
2 weeks later, he calls wanting to return it because he purchased another tuxedo that he felt was better before his wedding. Not once did he call after he picked up the altered tuxedo to complain or raise a concern.
I told him that altered garments cannot be returned and the coat and pants are a matching set. I would in good faith take back the accessories if they were not used and issue a partial refund.
I cannot express the difficulty it is to communicate with him the compromise of offering him a partial refund even though it is clearly stated that we only will exchange or refunds items within 2 weeks of a purchase ( and this is on the accessories). It clearly states we do not refund on altered or special order merchandise.
I hope you can resolve this as a 3rd party mediator.
At this point I will bo longer be offering a refund for any items as stated on the receipt since he was unwilling to go over the receipt with me over the phone and see I was willing to be sympathetic to his concern even though he did not communicate anything to us until well after his wedding date.
I am rejecting this response because: His so-called matching set is not a matching set of slacks and tuxedo jacket since they are made by different manufacturers.
When my husband and groomsmen went back into the store, they were measured, given quotes for the suits they selected, and paid for the rentals in full. They left with receipts stating they paid in full with nothing left due.
A few weeks before the wedding Tuxedo Den staff started calling my husband leaving multiple voicemails saying he needed to come in to pay an additional amount. After speaking with staff several times and explaining that the men had paid in full, Tuxedo Den stated that the salesperson made a mistake and didn't charge the correct amount, that he was no longer employed there and that the men would not be receiving their suits unless we paid an additional several hundred dollars. My husband asked to be escalated to a manager which also took several attempts to make happen. When speaking the manager, John Rodriguez, the manager reiterated that he refused to release the suits to the wedding party without paying the new much higher price. In desperation with the wedding being right around the corner and seven men needing suits so soon, my husband paid the demanded additional amount.
We'll pursue formal action against the liable store staff as well as the company, but it's important that potential customers understand the risks you may be taking by doing business with Tuxedo Den.
