U-Box of Syracuse Reviews (1)

Review: I just moved from Maine and had two U-Boxes shipped to the U-Haul Store. On August 11, 2012 around noon, I went there to empty one box. When I arrived there, and requested one U-Box to be move out from the storage so that I could move stuff into the rented storage in the store, the store manager [redacted] told me that there were over 70boxes in the storage and it took time to find. He told me "Every time, when I needed to get the U-Box, call us two hours ahead of time." He wanted me back in two hours and he would get the box ready. I went back after two hours and the box was not ready yet. I waited to get the box moved out of the storage, although that was a short wait.I went to the store with my wife again on Saturday, August 25, 2012. Before I went, I call the store phone number at around 11 am. A gentleman answered the phone. I gave him my name and, apparently, he looked at the computer and asked, When are you coming?I said, You need two hours ahead of time. How about after one, between 1-1:30?No problem. It will be ready for you, he answered enthusiastically.I arrived at the store at about 1:30. Again, the manager [redacted] was at service. I called before I came in and I come to access my U-Box, I told him.He said to me, You need to work with the lady in charge of U-Box storage. We have 75 boxes there and I cannot help.I replied, Dont BS to me. Your space is not likely to hold that many boxes.I can show you, our space can hold more than 100 boxes but not full now, [redacted] said.I do not want to count your space. I just want to get the box and empty it, I told [redacted].I cannot help, [redacted] insisted.I said, You wanted me to call you ahead of time for the box and I did today. Why so troublesome. He said, The lady who charges the U-box storage works Monday through Friday. You need to talk with her.I told him that Monday through Friday I need to work. The only time I could come to empty the box was in the weekend. The contract does not say that the U-Box service is not available in the weekend, I said.I am not going to argue with you, [redacted] said.No. I am not arguing. I am reasoning. I want to talk to U-Haul regional manager, I told him.He said, You can call the 1-800 number. No, I want the name of your regional manager, I insisted. We dont have one.You should have. I know Maine has one.Dont yell at me. I am going to call police, he hoaxed. You can call if you feel so. I am here, I told him.He dialed. My wife and I were in the store waiting for police coming. At that time no single other customer on the floor except two of us.It took only short time when police Officer [redacted] came withhis colleague. They asked my wife and me to step out of the store and Officer [redacted] directly went inside the store.Outside, we told the other officer that we were not arguing or yelling but just wanted the store to provide services as the contract lined out. We did what the manager wanted us to do but he did not do his part. When we were talking, two customers walked into the store.Quickly Officer [redacted] came out of the store and we briefly explained to him the situation, no arguing or yelling happened but the store managers racially targeted at us and purposely gave us difficulties. You can use another storage facility nearby (He mentioned the name but I could not recall it) and you can file complaints to BB and the State AG Office, Officer [redacted] suggested. In the area, this is the only store that has indoor space, I told him. We just move to here from Maine and all our household stuff came in U-Boxes, my wife added, I need to get some stuff (from the U-Box).Then the two officers warned us, Do not come back into the store today. We told them that we would follow but the issues were: (1) other than the U-Box, we have rented space upstairs; and (2) Weekdays do not work with us. That was the trouble the manager gave us today. As the other officer walked away to check around, Officer [redacted] walked into the store again. When Officer [redacted] came out of the store, his colleague already drove away. Officer [redacted] told us, I talked to [redacted]. Watertown U-Haul has indoor storage. Then he continued, No U-Box today. They are busy with students now. But they will have the mid-night clean person to get the box tonight and you can come to work on it tomorrow between 2-5. They close at 5 tomorrow, he stressed. We expressed our appreciations to Officer [redacted] and left him and the store.Actually, the manager made a big lie to the officer. Based on my experience with U-Haul stores this summer, any U-Haul person to operate the vehicle for U-Box needs permit. If three or four people working in the store that afternoon were not allowed to operate the vehicle and had to wait till Monday for the lady, how can a clean person be permitted to operate the vehicle at night? What I want to complain about was that the store disregards the contract and set up its own rules to limit my access of the U-Box I rent. Although the request of a call two hours before going to the store for reaching the U-Box is not in the contract, it is a reasonable request. I followed the request but the store kept limiting my accessing U-Box. If the store's equipment for the U-Box were out of order that and I was not able to do what I intended to do, I can understand and forgive them. Actually, it was not the case.Desired Settlement: An apology and some compensation for the time and for the rentals of the U-Box and of the space lost since the event.
