I bought a used car from Acura of Escondido on October 10, 2012. Through the process of buying it I had asked if the title was clean and if they had the title. They assured me that the title was clean and showed me the Carfax. They said that they do not physically hold the titles at the dealership but hold them at a separate location so I could not view it at that time. I gave them a check from navy federal as well as 4,000 dollars of my hard earned money in cash and the process was done. About a month later I start receiving notices from navy federal telling me they do not have proof that they are the lien holder of the vehicle. I learned from a police officer that California's DMV is backed up and that they might be still in the process of dealing with the title. So I was patient and gave it another month. Another month goes by and Navy federal still has not received the title from the dealership. The bank has 90 days to receive the title or they TRIPLE MY INTEREST RATE and make the loan a personal loan instead of an auto loan. So I call the dealership on December 28th and they direct me to their employee that deals with the titles and the DMV, she proceeds to pull up my information and ends up telling me that they still have not received the title from the previous lien holder! They sold me a car without having the title to it! So I go down to the dealership and the finance manager tells me the same thing, also telling me that this is a legal practice and that they do it all the time. Two and a half months later and they still do not have the title and I would assume have no control over when they can receive it. The dealership also has 90 days to process the title and hand it over to the bank by law. But if they don't have the title to begin with how can they control when they get it to my bank? The bottom line is that they sold me a car without a title, after telling me they had one and now I'm supposed to be punished because of their bad business practices? Do not buy from these guys.
