[redacted].We strive to make banking experience for our members more convenient, efficient and enjoyable, so your report of a disturbing experience with one of our credit union representatives is a serious concern for us. First and foremost, on behalf of USFCU, I would like to personally apologize to [redacted] for any inconvenience this situation may have caused him.We have addressed this particular matter with the involved employee and following internal investigation it was determined that the credit union employee followed all procedures accordingly.
Per USFCU membership booklet and Regulation E, members are required to notify the financial institution within two business days of any fraudulent activity on the account. [redacted] informed USFCU of fraudulent activity on his account. USFCU employee stated that the activity on the account will be investigated and that such investigation requires member’s cooperation. [redacted] was advised to contact the vendor directly as USFCU is unable to open fraud investigation with vendors on member’s behalf. Employee provided member with a phone number that was listed on member’s statement. Member was advised to call back if he required further assistance.
Regulation E states that, the maximum loss amount a member can incur due to fraudulent activity is $50.00. As a curtesy, the member did not incur any losses and received full amount, $184.80, as a credit to his account within one business day.USFCU did not prevent [redacted] from closing his credit union account. The account must remain active in order to receive credits and refunds. Regretfully, [redacted] has closed his account with USFCU on May 14, 2015.
Sincerely,Mary K
