Ultimate Fitness Reviews (5)

I have belonged to several gyms in Gastonia and I can honestly say I've had my best experiences with Ultimate Fitness Recently I was in a funk with my routine and ***, an owner of the gym, took the time out to go over some alternatives to doing a weight-lifting regimen solely and turned me on to stretch resistance band training Within a few weeks I noticed a significant change in stamina, strength, and endurance The best thing was that she just took time out of her day to help me out and share some tips with me at no additional charge Also, there are variouis fitness classes the gym provides for members as part of basic membership This club without a doubt provides the most positive and friendliest atmosphere in Gastonia, and they are one of the most economical gyms in the area for it I can't recommend this facility enough

Thank you for your letter regarding the case ID [redacted]  We have reviewed the complaint filed by [redacted].  We do understand his frustration with the charges, however, on numerous occasions [redacted] was in violation of basic health and safety rules that are in...

place at Ultimate Fitness.

First and foremost, [redacted] was seen on multiple occasions using gym equipment without a towel. ( Our facility is under 24 hour surveillance).  We have a zero tolerance policy with the regards to not using a towel.  Sweat spreads germs, bacteria, diseases, viruses and more.  The health and safety of our members is a priority to us.  We do not want the health of our members in jeopardy at our facility, and not using a towel can certainly spread illness.  We have signs posted everywhere in the gym that says ‘No Towel, No Workout’ (see attached photos of the facility- these are numerous locations at the gym where the sign is posted)

Second- another rule of our gym is that you must re-rack your weights.  Members are not permitted to put weights on machines and leave them there.  It is inconsiderate to other people who may want to use the machine after you and potentially can not lift that type of weight or move it.  It is the responsibly of each member to put their weights away so that other members may safely enjoy use of the facility.

[redacted] was observed on camera on the following dates:

4/24/14 at 10:06 pm-  Working out on equipment without a towel
5/25/14 at 10:20pm – Working out on equipment without a towel
6/19/14 at 8:02 pm- Towel is present but member is not utilizing it on equipment
9/6/14 10:43 pm – Member used equipment and left weights there
[redacted] spoke with gym staff early in the year about why he incurred the first additional fee to his membership.  He was informed that the fee was a result of the rule violation.  Beyond that, it was observed that he continued to violate the rules, regardless of the penalty he originally incurred.

As far as whether or not his membership would increase, it is stated in our contract which [redacted] signed that membership dues may change without notice.  I would be happy to provide a copy of [redacted]’s signed contract.

We do sincerely regret this situation. This is one that is easily avoidable if members simply follow a few of the rules that are in place at the gym.  The rules are so that everyone can enjoy the gym in a safe and healthy environment.  We have members as young as 19 and some as old as 88.  Our senior members can not move heavy weight around and it is not fair when people leave equipment on machines rendering it impossible for them to use or don’t use a towel and jeopardize their health.  We would also not tolerate another member jeopardizing [redacted]’s health or safety.  All of our members are important to us and we aim to protect them all as best we can.

We have been in business for a very long time, and if you check the records with Revdex.com, we have very few complaints against us.   [redacted] is free to cancel his membership, if he hasn’t already done so, so that he may attend a different gym in the area. I will be happy to assist him with that.

This is in response to a letter received in reference to member [redacted]. I did have various conversations with [redacted] regarding his membership during December. He is correct about the delay response during the middle of December. As I explain to him we were extremely busy with the Ultimate...

Fighting Championship being in town and using our gym as their media hub. We have various media outlets filming interviews as well as fighters using the gym. I explained to him that I had a freeze form that he filled out but not a cancellation form. He said he did it over the phone with one of our front desk workers. We do not take cancellations over the phone it has to be done in person, by fax or an email sent to me explaining why the member wants to cancel. I told [redacted] that I couldn't give him a refund without discussing  this with the owner and he would have to okay the refund. When I called [redacted] that back it went to voicemail. I tried again later in the day and after the phone was answered all I heard was a loud commotion like he was at a restaurant. I told the person I was trying to reach [redacted] and there was no response. I received another call from [redacted] a few days later accusing me of lying and stated that I never contacted him. It was a little upsetting but none the less I inform him that the owner was not going to refund him because he didn't follow the procedure for cancelling his membership. I have included the freeze form and last letter received from [redacted]. After speaking to [redacted] in December and realizing he was agitated [redacted] allowed me to cancel his account without requesting an email and change of address form. I'm only following the set procedures at the gym and I'm sorry that [redacted] feels slighted by the gym.

Review: In November 2013, I requested to have my account with Ultimate Fitness canceled. By then, I had fullfilled my contractual obligation. I had initially placed it on hold in October with hopes of rejoining, once my financial situation was better. Due to work obligations, I was forced to move to Hollywood CA. This is when I requested CANCELATION of my account. To my surprise, on 12/10/2013, $149.99 was charged from my bank account by ULTIMATE FITNESS. I immediately called to get this issue resolved. I spoke to [redacted] who took my contact information and promised that [redacted], the manager would call me back the same day to resolve it. [redacted] didn't call me back and after a week of waiting I decided to call back myself. This is when I spoke to [redacted]. I explained the entire situation to him, and requested to be refunded the entire $149.99. He claimed that he couldn't see anywhere in their system where I had requested cancelation. He then proceeded to cancel my account since it hadn't been canceled as per my initial REQUEST in NOVEMBER. I explained my reason for having requested cancelation which was that I had moved to Los Angeles and quite frankly the membership was too expensive. He said he couldn't do anything then, but promised to have the owner call me back. The owner NEVER called me back regarding this issue. After 2 weeks of waiting I sent [redacted] an email detailing my dissatisfaction in how this whole situation had been mishandled. [redacted]'s response was the same. No apology for anything, and still couldn't put me in touch with the ownerDesired Settlement: My desired settlement is simple. They should refund me the entire $149.99.It's quite clear that my account should have been canceled. I hadn't used their facilities in over 5 months. No activity what so ever.On 12/10/2013 when my bank account was charged $149.99, I immediately reached out to them. Assuming that I was wrong about this whole situation ( Which I am Not), Since they bill a month in advance, there is no reason why I should have been charged through 01/10/2014.
