Response to complaint:
There are three items raised by customer:
1- Filler strip needs to be polished.
Yes, a technician needs to be scheduled to polish this piece.  We will contact customer immediately to schedule.  (This should have been...

done already.  Customer Service did not       schedule because of other open items.)
2- Original tops were incorrect design:
The tops were templated with the customer to cover a antigue 1971 special sink/drain unit.  The final layout and design were per the customer, approved by customer on site, and the physical templates were signed by the customer.  The original tops were correct per this approved design.
We replaced them at No Charge to a new design when it was found this design was not working.
3- Removal of movement joint
Upon installation of No Charge replacement pieces as noted above, the tile movement joint (a rubber gasket placed between the tile and the countertop at the grout line) was removed by installer.  The customer , a contractor, was consulted by telephone during removal and it was the installer's understanding it was okay to be removed.  This was an error.
We do bear the responsibility for the removal of this gasket and do want to remedy.
However, the customer, a contractor, quoted $2100 to completely remove all tile in kitchen, re sheetrock the walls and install new tiles, with the rubber gasket.  This seems to be an excessive amount of work to be done for the gasket as well as quite expensive.  We offered to remove the countertops and have the cabinets adjusted, but that option was priced by the customer at $1950.  We can do the work for less then half the price, but customer wants to maintain control of the project.
We are offering a settlement offer of $1000 for the missing gasket.  The gasket was removed in error.  We feel this is a generous offer to remedy.

Review: ive purchased granite countertops from unico back August 2014. I've had to leave multiple messages until they got back to me to set a date for installment. when the granite finally got installed october time( 2 months later) the granite was defective.instead of replacing the granite right away they choose to send people to come look at it numerous times ( which made me miss work since they can only come during morning or early noon hours) after over 3 times of trying to fix the problem they decided to replace it. I drove an hour with my husband to look at a new slab and was finally looking forward to getting the new granite installed. a week after thanks giving they finally came to install the new granite which was not the one that we choose. we got exactly the same granite as before with same problem PLUS the granite got wet (I'm assuming from the snow outside) the installers told me that it should dry within 12 hours( I have never seen any company tell someone "here is a defective granite just wait 12 hours for it to dry) to make things worse.. the item was only partially replaced which means only 3 out of 4 slabs were replaced and its continuing to stain even though they claim that it was sealed with 15 year warranty. I spoke to [redacted] ( [redacted]) she has no interest in communicating anymore. and I'm stock with a granite that I paid over $3000 for which I absolutely hate.Desired Settlement: a complete replacement of the granite with the desired slab

Review: Unico installed our granite countertops in our kitchen. They installed all of the countertops (August [redacted]) but had an issue with filler piece in front of the sink - it kept breaking. It turns out this was due to an error with the template they made, a design flaw on their part. This resulted in the countertops around the sink having to be completely replaced with new granite. When they came back to replace the granite a couple weeks later, the granite now was a little bit thicker and the installers cut out the movement joint (without permission) that was put into place for the tile work above the granite. This movement joint served a purpose (for tile movement) as well as was the aesthetic plan for the kitchen (and is a part of the other half of the kitchen).

We have made several phone calls, almost daily, to Unico to get this resolved. They have been to the house and seen the mistake. Weeks have gone by, and we have no resolve and none in sight. Also, after the second install they were supposed to come back and polish the filler in front of the sink which does not match the dimensions of the countertop. No one has come to do that.

The only way to fix this is to re-do all of the backsplash tile on that wall.Desired Settlement: $2100 and polish/sand the filler in front of the sink.
