I brought three watches in for batteries....got two back that dayOne fell apart when I got it homeThey were most condescending about the cheapness of the watches....I explained that they were keepsakes from my brother who had passed awayThe guys in back who replaced the batteries were chuckling when they saw the watches....Got a callf later that one needed cleaning for a cost of 35.00.....Told them I would pick up the watch and returned to have the other "cheap" watch put back togetherFeel like I'm walking into the proverbial used car lot when I go in there....won't go back

I had always considered Fred a close friend at Unicorn; even had several pieces custom made and recommended everyone I ran into that this was the place to goI then had a Raymond Weil watch that Fred sold me serviced by him as the watch crystal and a small part of the watch metal itself was scratchedI asked Fred how much it would cost to repair it and he told me $after contacting themA month later Fred called me and told me that my watch had finally arrived and the repair looked greatWhen I met with Fred he told me that my repair cost was $When I questioned Fred about the difference in price he attempted to blame the Raymond Weil factoryAs I had reminded Fred, he told me $and if the price was going to be different then he should have called me first and asked for authorization and I would have simply told him not to repair the watch and picked it up; yet, Fred refused to budge and insisted that I pay the $and keep in mind this is a man who makes millions of dollars annually at his business selling high end jewelry but could not accept responsibility for his mistake and poor business decisionI have to be honest, for Fred to do this he showed no business ethics, ruined a long standing friendship, and by not returning my watch for the agreed upon price for repair in retrospect basically stole my watch or at least committed an act of fraud against meYes, Fred gets great reviews and he is always amiable, but when he looks you straight in the eyes and enters into an agreement, then breaks that agreement, and essentially steals from you because he cannot assume responsibility for his error, what else can I sayAs I have just returned from a military deployment I now have the time to post this reviewMy hope is that Unicorn will read this review and that Fred will come to terms with what he did and be ashamed of his unethical and dishonest business decisionAs I am leaving my actual name on this review my hope is that Google will leave it in tact and not remove it if Unicorn or Fred complainsAs for Fred, you have lost a good friend, as for Unicorn, you have lost a long standing customer of over yearsHowever, either way they, that is Unicorn and Fred need to make this right and rectify this situation

I lost a diamond from my ring that was done by Unicorn Jewelers years agoIt was 1/carat that was my engagement ring in My husband passed away in and in the Spring of I had them design a ring with the diamonds I had from my husbandIn the designing phase, I would ask them to adjust the size of the ring because it was so large on my short finger, they would say how beautiful it looked and they when I insisted, would admit that it was a little large. They would then charge another $-$dollarsI asked them to replace the 1/carat (I had insurance) and he dropped in a 1/carat and told me how great that lookedHe quoted me the cost of $3,and then when I told him I had insurance for the 1/carat he reduced it $2,and then started throwing other amounts to meHe should have just replaced it with a1/carat that I requestedWhen the ring was finished, they charged me $more than what was quoted by *** to my insurance company. They, in my opinion, run a very unscrupulous businessI have had friends who have had trouble with them alsoI will not ever step foot in the store again! I cringe when all the employees are wearing these big gaudy diamondsI plan to have it appraised by another jewelerHe had it appraised for $12,and I know it would appraise around $6,if even that

I am writing specifically about the Unicorn Jeweler on Carmel Mountain Ranch, not the one in Rancho Bernardo
The transaction happened about months ago and I am still seething They lost the excess gold that was mine They also lost one of my gems They charged me an enormous price for a man made diamondI found one the same carat size online for a 10th of the price One of the diamonds in the ring they redesigned for me fell out the first day I wore it The large man made stone in that same ring started loosening within days and they had to solidify it The people are sweet and well meaning, but buyer beware Still shaking my head at my stupidity dealing with this business There were signs all along of them not doing what they said they would do In fact, there was nothing that they said they would do that they actually did I think the owner, ***, is loosing his memory and forgetting stuff I would not recommend doing business with these people
