July 23, 2014Dear [redacted],Union Roofing Contractors, Inc. has reviewed the complaint that was submitted through your agency regarding the above listed case number. After going through everything and speaking with the customer, our response is as follows;Union Roofing Contractors,...

Inc. did install a new roof on June 15, 2013 at [redacted], PA 19120. On February 5, 2014 we went back out to look at an issue [redacted] was having with his roof. After investigating the problem, it was determined that [redacted] needed a new Eave Box. The one we installed back in June of 2013 had completely frozen and busted due to a direct result of the Winter that we had this past year. Unfortunately, the winter that we experienced this previous season was the worst winter we have had in hundreds of years and of course, there is no way of forecasting how the winters will play out every year. We gave [redacted] a price of $ 1,250.00 for a new eave box, downspout, as well as a heater cord (which will aide in preventing freezing of the eave box and downspout). [redacted] declined to have this work done because he thought it should be under warranty- we are enclosing a copy of the warranty with #7 circled that states 'we are not responsible for leakage caused by frozen spouts, boxes and gutters'. -Now, since we have spoken to [redacted], he has stated that he had the EXACT work completed by another contractor that we gave him a price for in February of 2014. This is also unfortunate, because now that someone else has completed work to the roofing we did in June of 2013, his warranty cannot be upheld - warranty item #4 that states "...and this guarantee is null and void should any other contractor or persons perform any repairs or alterations to this roof while same is under our guarantee'. However, in a good faith effort to preserve our relationship with our customer, we are willing to come out and inspect the roof, eave box and spout to see if the work was done properly- if it was we will reinstate their warranty for them.We would also like to make a note that we did not receive this correspondence until July 17, 2014 from the Revdex.com, due to a mix up within their Philadelphia Office located on JFK Boulevard. Had we received it sooner, we would have been willing to negotiate a settlement with [redacted] - however, we did not know that [redacted] had an issue with the estimate we gave him, besides the price. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact the office at ###-###-####.Kindest Regards,Kol H[redacted]Union Roofing Contractors, Inc.

Review: This roofing company did some work for my father([redacted]) on 5-30-14.Some of the items on the contract were not completed and when myfather confronted him about it, he cursed my father out and told him to "use his credit card" to get that item repaired after this item was on thethe original contract for him to perform. He was paid but he did not complete the items contractually.Desired Settlement: I would like the money for the item refunded to my father.

Review: In 2004 I purchased a brand new home that was built by [redacted]. Union roofing installed my roof. I am having proble** with leaks in different areas of my house because of the roof. I contacted union roofing because I was supposed to have a 25 year warranty on my roof and was told that since [redacted] didnt pay them my warranty is null and void. I contact [redacted] and they tell me that union roofing is responsible. I have paid out of pocket to fix these leaks but they continue to be a problem. I finally had another company come out and I was informed that I have proble** with my entire roof. To start they never installed an ice an water shield (which is code and has been code for over 15 years), the laps on the shingles are too close, the capping not in gutters, etc. The roofer explained that this is just some of the proble** he has found thus far. I will have to replace the roof because this will be an ongoing problem. In order to replace my roof it will cost between $13,000 and $15000 which I cant afford.Desired Settlement: I would like union roofing to pay for the replacement of my roof. At this time I do not trust their work and would not feel comfortable with union roofing doing the work. The fact that they wont even honor a warranty for the work they did is appalling I want the peace of mind that my roof is good.

June 26, 2014Dear Sir:I am writing to you in response to a letter we received on June 23, 2014 regarding **. [redacted] as listed above. Review: Good Evening, Revdex.com Representative,Back in 5/25/2012 we hired Union for services to repair a large A roof and 2 smaller roofs, also adding aluminum capping. As indicated to the sales representative in the SPECIFICATIONS Section of the contract signed by me and Union, where Union was given additional indications for repair due to age of the roofs. After 90 days I reported back to Union problems with the instillation of the roofs involving the cornice, facia, and soffia, generally due to the improper installation of the flashing. Flashing was nailed directly to stuccoed wall and rotten wood that was requested to be addressed as stated within the contract, Replace all rotted wood as needed. Much of the work became damaged due to the improper install. After repeatedly notifying Union that the work that was done was actually coming apart and requesting Union to come back out to fix the issues each time they requested more payment. I have a 15yr guarantee that was signed and also it states maintenance free. Due to the improper instillation now our rear wall has become compromised with the weather. We have now developed a leaking issue due to repairs not corrected by Union as stated in their Guarantee. Please note that I have tried to reach out to Union Roofing Contractors, Inc. on multiple occasions to try and settle this matter but they refuse to honor their guarantee and warranty by continually requesting more payment. I have asked why I am being required to pay outside of what falls under this Union Roofing contract, but I am always met with difficulty and complete ignorance of what was signed by me and Union.Thank you for taking the time to look over my complaint, looking forward to getting this issue resolved.Thank you,[redacted]Desired Settlement: I would like for Union to come back out and correct the repairs that was stated in the contract:Never installed cornice, re-install aluminum siding properly with new wood support that was requested, white caulk and silicone sealant, nailed cemented fabric and re-cement with the re-instillation of flashings blown away by the wind. Additional Discussion of the damage incurred to the rear wall.

Review: Union Roofing was called to investigate a disconnected downspot in the rear of my home. The Union Roofing Representative contact my home at 6:02AM on 2/4/14 and arrived at roughly 7:00AM. Dan S[redacted] of Union Roofing wrote an estimate including removal of a 3" eaves box and associated down spout, installation of a 4" eaves box and down spout, and installation fo 30' heater cord within the eaves box and down spout. Total costs as outlined in the estimate is $1,450.00

On 6/15/13, (less than nine months ago) Union Roofing performed work at our home. Union Roofing Representatives installed a modified rubber (granular) roof, covered all parapett walls with modified granualar rubber, installed new white aluminum capping around edges of the roof, installed a new 3" aluminum eaves box, and all flashings were to be nailed cemented fabric and re-cemented. Additionally they installed two new roof vents and a new metal chimney cap. Total cost for this service was $4,000.

The 6/15/13 fully executed Union Roofing Contract states that there is a fifteen (15) year guarantee on the work that was performed. There are no exclusions outlined in the Contract and therefore all materials are covered under the guarantee. When speaking with Dan S[redacted] of Union Roofing he stated that the eaves box was not covered under the terms of the guarantee as the box is now frozen and needs to be replaced. The guarantee does not include a frozen eaves box and a heater cord would prevent blockage of the eaves box and potential damage to the roof. I questioned why this was not explained during the 6/15/13 installation and Dan S[redacted] commented that they (assuming they would be Union Roofing) did not expect such a severe winter. Weather conditions should not supercede the terms and conditions of the 6/15/13 guarantee unless specifically included, referenced, stated, or otherwise provided in such guarantee.Desired Settlement: We are requesting that the original repair request be performed using industry standards for such repair. The repair should include provision as stipulated in the guarantee and replacement of the 3" eaves box with a 4" eaves box (free of charge) if warranted. The original request was for the repair or replacement of the downspout immediately adjacent to the eaves box on the rear of the home. The downspout is dissected immediately below the base of the eaves box thereby causing run off to affect cornerstones, bricks, and wood work supporting the housing structure. The downspout is the only requested repair and therefore should be the focus for this inquiry.

Using industry standards, we are prepared to pay the median cost of labor @ $40/hr. plus materials - 30' down spout at $20 for each 10' section. With an estimate of two hours (probably generous) for the repair total cost for this service should be $140. Assuming two individuals are need for the installation and with union based wage structures we have increased the labor calculation by twenty-five percent. Total cost of repair should not exceed $260.00.
