Review: I took my motorcycle into the shop to be worked on. Told the gentlemen what was happening and that I just replaced the battery and it is still covered under the 90 day warantee and if that is the issue I will need to return it. He began looking at the motorcycle and called and told me the regulator needed replaced or the stator. I should purchase the regulator first because it is the cheaper of the two and quoted me at $30 or $40 part versus $130. So I went with that, never heard back for another week and I called him back to see how it was going and he said that didn't fix it he had to order the stator. Called him back the following week to see how it was and he informed me the bike was done and he has been trying to call me. After I get my final bill the total cost was $380. $110 for the regulator that was supposed to be $30-$40. $140 for the stator and various labor and taxes for the rest. He also informed me my battery was bad and had to replace it, sending the new one back and installing a new one. This was done without permission, adding an additional $60 to my bill for a grand total of $440. I then took the bike 2.5 miles to work where it wouldn't start again. I called the place back and they said it sounds like nothing they worked on and don't know what to tell me.Desired Settlement: I would like the refund on labor, the battery (because I told him I could return the other one), and the difference in the quoted verbal price on the Regulator.

Response:

In regard to complaint number [redacted] ([redacted]):

When this bike was brought to us, [redacted] told me what the problem was and I told him it could be one of two things (the regulator or the stator). I suggested that he purchase the regulator first because it was the cheaper of the two items. I at no time told him that it was $30 to S40 dollars. I have been in the business for over 20 years and know very well that you cannot buy a regulator for that price. I may have told him that the difference between the two parts was $30 to S40 thus the misunderstanding. When we took the bike apart, it was apparent that someone else had worked on it. The wiring was taped together. I ordered the regulator ($115.00) and installed it but it did not solve the problem. I ordered the stator ($140.00) and installed it. His battery would not charge, it was obvious to me that there was nothing wrong with the battery and that his bike was the problem. I had to put a battery in the bike to test drive it so I gave him a new battery at cost ($60.00). (This was done mainly in an effort to save time). I was hoping that with all the new parts and the extensive work we did on the bike that it would start and run good and it did. When [redacted] picked up the bike I told him I did everything I could to correct the problem. I also told him that I was only charging $100.00 labor even though my mechanic and I spent well over 15 hours on his bike.

[redacted] drove the bike to work and then he called and said that the bike would not start again. It was obvious that there were other issues with this bike maybe a short we could not locate, because something keeps draining the battery. At this time, I told [redacted] that there was nothing I did to cause this situation and everything I did was to try to solve the problem. I also told [redacted] that I was not interested in any further research especially since he did not seem to understand the extent of the damage.

RESOLUTION:

I am willing to return the $60.00 he paid for the battery and against my better judgment I will give him the $100.00 labor back (I say this because I clearly worked on the bike in an effort to correct the problem). I do not want to see [redacted] or his bike in my shop ever again. I am also willing to bet that [redacted] has yet to get his bike running or has he taken it to another shop for repairs.
