So as not to bore the reader, I'll keep my review as brief as possible of Michae K.. My experience was largely through his associate, Woody, with whom Michael hired to "install the pool". Woody was allowed by Michael, to pull our permits using Michaels license, and what my wife and I ended up with was two contracts for the same pool: one was the dummy used to pull permits, and the other was the agreement made between my wife and Woody, who appeared to be a very nice, well-intentioned guy. I understand my wife's neglect in hiring an 'unlicensed' contractor, but the grey area is hard to avoid when presented with such a circumstance. I also understand Michael's responsibility as a contractor to stand up for his work, even if he is not the one to be doing itl. As I'm sure most of you already know, this story ends with an unfinished pool, inferior craftsmanship to the work that was done, and a homeowner who paid a contractor the full amount of the contract. At the end, when work was left to be done, Michael stepped in and threatened to sue me, the homeowner, or place a lien on my property for the full amount of the project. I was amazed and confused, but apparently he and Woody started having issues and I lost account of what Woody and Michael's arrangement was, but nonetheless, money went missing. Of course I had kept good accounts of my money and the checks I had paid, so did Woody.
In a perfect world, Michael would never set foot on my property again, and there'd be a recall on his license. Fool me once, shame on me, fool me twice, shame on you... Michael worked the system twice on my behalf, once to collect a fee for doing nothing and being responsible for nothing, and again for coming after the homeowner when his own accounting methods came into question.
I've fixed all the mistakes he's made, and again, seek nothing financial here, only to raise awareness to the next well wishing family who wants to put a pool in their backyard. If you come across Michael K. or Unique Pools Designs, run... don't walk.
My hunch, after having dealt with Michael, is that he'll conjure a response to this review, in an effort to smokescreen or raise doubt on my behalf, it wouldn't even surprise me if he called my own intent or ethics into question. This is the kind of business owner you'll encounter, too: all smiles and happy to take your first deposit, and threatening and shifty when things don't go well and his profits begin to shrink.
